Is renting a retail unit the same as renting a flat/house?
Is there a lot of legal requirements? are Solicitors needed?

its very different, the landlord is generally liable for a lot less and the landlord will generally have a solicitor, so you'll need one to. My advice would be not to enter into a commercial lease without legal advice

google commercial leases ireland, it will give you some articles for example this one http://businessandlegal.ie/10-key-areas-to-consider-when-leasing-commercial-premises-in-ireland

It is extremely important that you get a solicitor to handle the lease. there was a case on here recen;ly of a diy commercial lease where the tenant ended up being liable for unpaid rates by a former tenant!! An expensive cost saving it turned out to be!!
