I am on UPC right now and the download speed is very impressive great with my Sky boxes and so on.

However UPC have not joined the Netflix open access thing and I can only get 720P from Netflix and not 1080P.

200Mb download is overkill 70 or even 50 would be fine what speed is typical of E fiber?

Also the highest upload on UPC is 10Mb what is the upload on Eircom Fiber?

Lastly on UPC if the power goes off so does the phone what way does the Eircom phone work with Fiber does the charge for the phone still come down the phone wire?

I'd still say the UPC service is technically far superior. However, if e-fibre's adequate for your needs maybe have a look at it.

FTTC (E-fibre) is heavily distance dependent so if you're right next to the cabinet you can get as high as 70 down and 20 up. If you're a few hundred meters away that quickly drops down to more like 35-50 down and 10 up.

You can still get phone delivered from the exchange with e-fibre however, you can opt to get no phone at all too and provide your own VoIP service, or some of the providers like Digiweb provide their own VoIP service which is similar to what UPC do.

You might want to talk to UPC about the Netflix issue. that shouldn't be the case, there is oodles of bandwidth available on their network.

Never heard of this Netflix issue. All seems fine here on 120 UPC. Full HD kicks in after about 10 seconds whenever available.

However im not sure how to tell if its definitely 1080p rather than 720p? Any ideas? Netflix just says SuperHD rather than 1080p or 720p from what i can see.

Edit - SuperHD is 1080p so it does work here on 120 UPC. Im using Hola to watch US but i dont think that makes a difference.

Edit Again - Actually SuperHD can be 720p or 1080p. Only some devices get 1080p including the PS3 and maybe the 360.

I dont think theres anyway to check if its 1080p or scaled down to 720p? Any ideas?
