    So I just got a call from the missus saying there was a weird squeaking noise inside the car.
    The weird thing is that the noise was coming on before the car's engine was on, so the key is in the position where the electrics work but not the engine.
    The squeaking was changing frequency a few times.
    Originally I thought that the fan belt may be on the way out.
    The timing belt, pump and tensioners were changed a month ago so I'm discounting that (hopefully).
    The second thing that came into mind is the fan, if the squeak is happening with the engine off then nothing else comes into mind.
    She said she already tried to turning off the fan but the squeak was still there and the AC was off.
    So I'm at a loss to this.
    The car was left for a bit in cold weather overnight, now after being driven the squeak has disappeared.
    Any ideas?

    Hmm, I was always under the illusion that if the fule pump starts to fail then the car will experience different problems e.g. harder to start, surging etc.
    Squeaking would be a first, for me anyway but thanks for the tip.

    Not sure what else I can ask about it other than possible suspects of the fan belt, bearing or now transpires the fuel pump.
    I've read that the clutch could also be a suspect but this seems a bit far fetched.
    Out of curiosity, is there any kind of test that could be performed on the fuel pump to rule it out? Measuring the psi out of the injector pump would be the port of call right?

    As alternative moving part - headlamps on some cars adjust themselves up and down at that stage of the ignition, dunno if that is a feature here?

    No unfortunately the GP doesnt have self levelling lights :(
    It has to be done manually

    Any chance the rear wiper went on unnoticed, making some noise?

    Hah :) I'd effing remove her licence if that was the case :)
    The rear wiper only comes on if the car is put into reverse with the front wipers turned on (apart if you actually turn it on).
    From what I gather, the squeaking happened as the car was left in the cold (iced over) and then when the engine warmed up the squeaking disappeared.
    Starting it again doesnt produce the squeak.
