    hi,

been in house few years now and would like to tidy up driveway.
area to cover is 350 sq metres roughly.
Got some tarmac quotes but these are coming in around the 8k range.
So looking for something cheaper , budget is 4 k or so..
I have heard washed pebbles as an option? Anyone know of a ball park sq metre price for these?
I presume I just call out to my local quarry to suss these out?
Open to other options on driveway coverage also?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks
    T

Your are looking for 'Nidaplast' or 'Nidagravel'. It comes in sheets about 40mm thick. Lay them loose and fill the 40mm honeycomb cells with the gravel. They hold the gravel in place, so you can cycle over it without rutting. You will need to rake it fairly regularly. Great option but quite expensive at about €15 - €18 per sq mt, I understand. It makes it as expensive as tarmac, but it absorbs rainwater, so it conforms to the environmental regulations.

are there any cheaper, even DIY alternatives? i have a long driveway (100m) with an open hardsurfaced area to the front of the house - total about 600m2 - thats 9-11k without labour/bedding sand/gravel!!!

might look across the water for a bulk buy!

Yes its not cheap. Maybe you don't need to do the areas which will not be trafficked.
