this week now, waiting for contractor. Contemplating whether its worth spreading grassland that will be ploughed around paddies day for crop? probably best to give it a dust. considering how mild it is and price back I probably go with 40units ac urea min. give the field along the road 60units to annoy my neighbor :D:D.

I only just took the spinner off the tractor a few weeks ago when I wanted that tractor to drive the generator when the electricity went out. don't plan on putting it back on until the end of feb. slurry will do now.

Urea:D, we have had 12" of rain since the dry weather in December so I bet all the lime is well washed in. AN to be on the safe side, but give price I would use Urea

It was surprising how long it could be seen after it was spread, despite all the rain.

Spread urea last week. Seems to be greening up. Let the cows out today for first time ground conditions are fine. What a difference a week makes.

Never used urea before, lads have mentioned it has come down in price, has it come down much and what land is it most suitable for? Also are other prices up or down much?

Only really works if you have reseeded land with good p and k

I must try some of this CAN stuff. Always used urea for majority of N applications here. You need to apply it in the right conditions to get a good response. Wet and warm for preference.

After moving away from Urea here and back to compounds hopefully might be able to grow decent grass and get some proper bulk in silage again.

Waiting on the coop to deliver us fertilizer here. Whats the weather to be like over the next few days? It made a decent bit of rain lastnight, but ground held up ok, was dry enough to let the cows out at 12. Anyone pulling the trigger yet?

We tried urea here yrs ago when the whole place was reseeded, didn't work. Mainly from very low p and k I think and the farm was very compacted them and held alot of water

Went with a bag of urea today on the driest fields that are recently reseeded. Just hope it gets the required 48 hrs before next deluge.
Most of the farm hasn't got any to date

I know what you mean, I had fert out middle of Feb here one good year. Like a fella I know said to me last year, I believe in early fert but I may as well have threw it in the lake for all the good it done.

Like with a lot of things, timing. I know in my own situation I don't have much room left until I have to get it out. Lambing March 20th and I will need grass. Last thing I want with the price of it is for a few days of deluge to wash it away.

Have 25kg CAN/acre out now, and wondering what happened to the settled weather that Countryfile was talking about last Sunday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 209 ✭✭Blue Holland

Went with a tonne of can over 20 acres yesterday, had checked the forecast at 2 o'clock and there was no rain worth talking about forecast until Sunday, got bloody half an inch last night:(
The ground i picked out to spread could half taking a little but rain but def loses after that amount. Lot more forecast for tomorrow so may wait see what next week brings.

Would Countryfile, which I keep bloody missing, not give a more UK specific forecast? I'd be wary of it.

Reading the weather forum, and just from my own observations it's just such a hard thing to predict. Particularly for where I am as some of the weather buoys are out of action.

I tend to use the Regional function of Met Eireann, as well as the outlook part of their National forecast, and various threads on the Weather forum on here, then I pick the worst of them to go by, anything better coming along is a bonus, anything bad and hopefully I have planned for, if that makes sense.

Touch wood going on this mornings forecast that Sunday will be my go day, hope for milder weather next week.
