Teeth Cleaning Before Invisalign

So I signed up for and got my moulds taken for invisalign, just waiting for them to come now. But the dentist recommended a teeth cleaning before I get my aligners, saying that the plaque on my teeth (very small ammount) may reduce the effectiveness of the aligners.

However, I don't see how the small ammount of plaque on my teeth could affect the aligners (especially since the moulds were taken with the plaque present) and realise that at the end of the day, the dentist is a business and wants to sell whatever they can. So is getting my teeth cleaned truly beneficial to my invisalign treatment, or was it just a sales pitch?

Sales pitch or not, most people never mind dentists would consider it a good idea to have clean teeth!!!

that aside, calculus (calcified plaque) would have an effect on the fit and movement etc. Plaque would not have an effect on the movement or fit but generally your oral health takes a dive with ortho treatment so best to be super on top of it or you may get gingival issues decay etc while having an aligner on al day for a few months....
