Mondeo thermostat

Does anyone know if all mk3 mondeos have an electrical connection on the thermostat? The one I took off didn't have one and I expected to see one as I thought they all had it. Must not have been a genuine part. But I don't see the connection for the plug on the new one. Other than that the temperature runs close to perfect now, though it runs 1 degree hotter than it should causing the fan to come on early.

if you're talking about the thermostat that controls coolant circulation then they don't normally have an electrical connector

The mk3 Mondeo has an electronically controlled thermostat. It's on the inlet instead of the outlet and supposedly offers better control of the engine temp. A new one from ford is €125

Most of the Mondeos in RoI do not have the high temp electrical over-heat safety protection. This connector Thermostat operates at =>98'C and the Thermostat without the connector operates at =>90'C. The connector thermostat can operate up to 105'C before fully open. Say you decided to rev the engine hard all of a sudden the ECU senses this and "Opens" the thermo in advance to "Protect" the engine as it may heat faster then the "Mechanical" thermostat can open and damage the engine. I have fitted the Connector thermostat instead of standard thermostat to avail of the extra heat in the cabin in winter and the increase in fuel economy without any problems. Consider, a faulty thermostat with or without a high limit connector can fail in the closed position and boil the engine anyway. IMO.

A connector thermostat on ebay is £20 incl free P&P as of 1st Mar '15
