    Hey folks

I've got two DVD drives in this old Dell Dimension 9200.
It's already got two HDD in but I want to add a third.

What would be the easiest way to replace one of the DVD drives with HDD ?
Would I need some type of caddy ?

    Thanks !

Hard drive mounting brackets for DVD drive Bay

Think this is what you are looking for, don't know if there are places selling them cheap in Ireland maybe someone else here could help. You will probably have to buy with another item to bring purchase price up past €20 to avail of free super saver delivery. I got brackets along with a hard drive for a small form factor pc in which I had no use for the dvd drive.

Its worth getting some rubber grommets to help limit any noise from the hard drive when spinning if that may be a concern to you, make sure you have a dvd drive cover for your case there are other versions ridiculously more expensive on amazon which come with a cover http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-3-5inch-Optical-Mounting-5-25inch/dp/B0009F8DV4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1390203006&sr=8-4&keywords=dvd+3.5+hard+drive

    Thanks for that !

Will I need a power cable I wonder ? Are the common DVD power and data connectors compatible with hard drives ?

    should be ok

have a quick google, and make sure the data cable going into the dvd drive to be removed is SATA, and not IDE (wide ribbon cable). If it is IDE, no problem, but you'll just need to get another SATA cable before you can hook up the replacement HD.

Thats my 9200. Should be an extra drive on top there but I removed it and now cant remember where it is :S

Should it be done this way? No. Has it worked for me? Yes. YMMV
