Built a HTPC - Made a Mistake - Need New Mobo & CPU - Any advice?

    Hey Guys,

I recently built a HTPC build for the living room. Got all my parts from Hardwareversand. The build is below, but I made a major mistake. My needs for the my HTPC where:

    XBMC
    HD Playback local and server
    Netflix
    Sky Go
    Iplayer etc...
    Spotify
    Maybe some SNES emulation

The thing is, my Processor/Mobo combo is not powerful enough to play Silverlight (Netflix/Sky Go) as Silverlight doesn't seem to be using the built in Hardware acceleration. Netflix is watchable, but low quality - Sky Go is buffering every other second. I need to replace the Mobo/Processor and was wondering what you guys would recommend.

The case is Mini-ITX with a 120w PSU so would need a board and CPU that would fit in it and not overheat and be powerful enough to handle silverlight fully. I don't mind getting an extra fan or so if absolutely required.

What do you guys think my best bet would be?

    Cheers

    Build:

    Mobo/CPU: ASUS E2KM1I-DELUXE
    RAM: 4GB G.Skill RipJaws PC3-8500U
    Case: Compucase 8K01BS-SA12U, mini-ITX
HDD: WD Green 1TB, SATA 6Gb/s
    + DVD, WIN7 64bit

If you are using Netflix and have windows 8 use IE as they are trialling HTML 5 with hardware acceleration afaik

    Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking that could be a solution for Netflix. But I live in Germany, and want as many TV channels as possible - so I do need SkyGo, I know they'll move to HTML5 eventually - but that could be years.

On a side note, do you know anywhere I can get a cheap upgrade (online or off) to Win8?

I have a €35 A4-4000 and FM2 itx board that does all of the above just fine. A celeron/pentium would be an option either. Either would be well within the 120w power envelope.

A4 and FMITX looks real good...do you think I'd need more cooling in my case or should it be enough? It uses 3x the power of the current setup (which is practically nothing but still!)

    Cheers

Should be fine I'd say its not a bad sized case and has a large vent over the CPU. Looking at a a4 rewiew system power draw is a little higher than I though @90w from the wall so although it would be ok accounting for psu inefficiencies on the 120w, perhaps something like a socket 1155 g2020 Celeron might be a better option on reflection.
