hey all, i know all the irish online marketplaces, but I have a bass that i feel is a bit too high end for those sites. I have used adverts and donedeal in the past...
Any thoughts on where/how i should be selling to get the most visibility and return?
it is a near-mint condition 1964 Fender P-bass, 100% original with original case if anyone is wondering.

ebay's fees are outrageous so i almost want to avoid it, but i think it's the best way to get visibility...

just to be clear, this is not a for sale post or a how much is it worth post. i know how much it is worth and I don't think i am going to find that much cash here...

this is strictly looking for information. it is a very rare bass to be found here in ireland, so i am hoping the novelty will allow it to be posted like this here.

Have you tried "Someneck guitars" on Aungier St or Jimi's out in Ballymount?

They both deal with vintage gear and might be able to help

i just found that jimi's website, but their contact info is web based only.

will look into the other one. never heard of "some neck".

    thanks for the info.

I know there used to be a vintage shop in kilkenny, but it seems like they are closed.

You could try thefretboard.co.uk. That used to be the forum on musicradar.com, and I've been on it since the forum closed down on musicradar. Seems pretty good. You might get some help/more exposure there.

Failing that, ebay. I had a guitar up on adverts for a few months, and stuck it up on ebay, and sold it within 2 days of it being up.

yeah, the only thing with the musician boards is i'd be leary if a guy signed up one day and right off the bat tried selling a €9K bass without any posting history!

A lot of vintage instruments seem to be sold on consignment - that way the seller is able to attach the name and credibility of an established shop to the instrument. I would imagine that would be your best bet. You might also consider looking into selling it through some shops in England. I can't see it being a cheap option, though.

consignment might be the way to go. the only thing is foot traffic to those dublin shops is not great. i'm surprised how some of those shops in town stay open.

going into town tom'w to talk to a couple of shops.

go in to Owen in some neck for a chat and bring it with you, he is in regular touch with jimi's too and would probably be in the best position to get it sold here for you, least hassle for you anyway which could be worth his commission!

+ 1 for Some Neck Guitars - Owen is a very reputable trader and I've dealt with him many times have and always had great experiences.

Foot traffic won't really come in to play. Nobody's going to walk into a shop on a whim and buy a 60s P bass. Shops like Jimis and Someneck, they have the clientele you're looking for, people actually looking to buy this kind of stuff.

Won't do you any harm to have it on adverts.ie as well. Be prepared for a lot of time wasters and people offering ridiculous trades or even cash offers, but you never know who might see it.

You could also get in touch with some guitar builders. The fact they would be building guitars that would cost a few quid, they might know who might be on the look out.

John Conway in Limerick used to do this as far as I know. He'd have guitars lying around the house.
