Sorry if this is the wrong place, but in the past week i have been having problems with my Sky broadband. It was always slow enough but it was enough for what it was used for but this past week it has slowed to a crawl. Have another sky broadband users have anything similar to them?

contention. where are ye based, Im in ashbourne.

Ive been taking regular speedtest readings for last month. day time and late at night I get up to 14mb which is fine as the line can only handle 17. Once we get into the evenings Im getting regular sub 1mb.

Did the usual trouble shooting with sky, to be fair, I work in IT and ahve had contracts with eircom, sky and vodafone over the years and the sky support guys were as about as good as any Ive ever talked to. Guy admitted straight up its contention and nothing they can do as the cabinets need upgrading but as eircom are concentrating on fibre upgrades he said realistically theyre looking at several months for that to happen so he suggested going to fibre is the only real option and theyve no lead time on their fibre offering. He hinted at the fact there could be other factors at play but was not allowed say. (eircom playing usual silly buggers)

    I appreciated that honesty.

Eircom are doing fibre for 35 for 6 months and then 50e for month thereafter. Thats 810e over 18 months.
Vodafone are doing free for 3 months (january offer) and then 35 per month after. Thats 525e for 18 months. For exact same thing as long as you dont look at call bundles which I have no interest in.

I actually eat the head of them when they tried telling me it was contention ha. I live in a village in mayo. Never had issue before till last month and i know they is only 6 r 7 on my line. It seems to be fine for the moment tho.

Remember Eircom are way behind in carrying out the necessary repairs to lines & some exchanges after the recent storms. This can have a far wider effect than justr the customers involved directly. Eircom claim this is because of a shortage of resources (techies). Of course if they got a kick up the a**e, they'd have it fixed long ago:rolleyes:.

    Im in South West Kerry.
    No broadband right now.
Its been very poor for the past couple of days but went completely around lunchtime.
    Phone still works.
Normally dont have to many problems.

Sky rep has passed it on to technical team.
