My Uncle left me shares in his Will.
However he chose a very rude Solicitor for me to deal with.
Most of the work is now done, however I wish I enquired could I have left him and chosen my own Solicitor at the beginning 8months ago) ? Assuming at a cost?

The Solicitor recently told me that the shares have now got to go through the Dept of Social Protection to check for clearance!! Which apparently takes a considerable amount of time. I feel Solicitor is going of his away to purposely delay releasing monies/shares. He has been very rude and extremely difficult to deal with from the beginning, yet praises himself. I rang Shares dept myself and they hadn't heard from him for months, while he had told me 'it's all in process, a matter of waiting' !! So he's now left me with he's done everything he can and will be dealt with in a matter of weeks, however ends letter with 'for clearance with Dept, it can take a considerable amount of time'. It's so hard holding back on telling him what I really think of him. This note does not reveal all!!

Does anyone know about this Clearance process?? I do know my Uncle was a very innocent man, so his clearance shouldn't take any time.

He takes weeks to return my calls, and months to inform me of any updates. Not happy

I'm reading into that (emboldened) line that the will nominated that particular solicitor to do the probate. You (if you are the executor) did not need to engage that solicitor to do the probate, you could have done it yourself or given the job to a different solicitor.

I was named as executor in the will of an elderly aunt several years ago. The will stated that it was my aunt's wish that xxxx solicitor (the same guy who drew up the will) be used to administer the estate. I quickly established that this clause in the will was not binding on me so I did the probate myself and saved several thousand euros in the process.
