I've not seen Movie 43, is it that bad?..

Sly has such an amazing record in these, he should be getting a lifetime achievement award, and leave Runt Smith to pick up the worst actor

Very tough on the Lone Ranger I think. I enjoyed it.

The lone ranger is pretty bad, i didnt like the ending.

Movie 43 I cant really say how bad it is, i turned it off after 10 mins, Hugh Jackman with a pair of balls on his neck was enough for me.

Glad to see Naomi Watts get a nomination for Diana. Watched it last night. Well .... watched it while doing a crossword, then cutting my toenails and looking at my watch quite a lot. If only Sid James were still with us, he would have added a lot and we could have had Carry On Nutty Princess.

Should I ask why Tyler Perry is nominated for worst actress?

Halle Berry in The Call wasn't that bad.

Well maybe her hair was that bad.

I think he plays a woman in drag in some of his films.

Lindsay lohan nominated in both worst actress and worst supporting actress......that cracked me up. she has to win something.

While Movie 43 had a terrible main plot, i have to say i enjoyed most of the mini-clips. Gerard Butler was comedy gold imo!

Haven't seen it but from what I hear, 'After Earth' has to be the end for M. Night Shyamalan, been on one hell of a losing streak since 'Lady in the Water' and still no answers where all his original creativity disappeared to.

Can't see him commanding any big budgets from here on in. He has nothing in the movie pipeline either, it's all dried up!

    The results are in:

    http://www.peoplestylewatch.com/people/stylewatch/package/article/0,,20768377_20792342,00.html

    Worst Picture:
    Movie 43

Worst Actor: Jayden Smith (After Earth)

Worst Actress: Tyler Perry (A Madea Christmas)

Worst Supporting Actor: Will Smith (After Earth

Worst Supporting Actress: Kim Kardashian (Temptation)

Worst Director: The 13 people who directed Movie 43

Worst Screenplay: Movie 43 (19 different screenwriters)

Worst screen combo: Will and Jayden Smith (After Earth)

Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel: The Lone Ranger

I haven't seen any of the nominees or winners (thankfully), so I'm not sure if all these awards were 'deserved' or not, but surely The Lone Ranger wasn't worse that Grown-ups 2, Scary Movie 5 or The Smurfs 2??

After Earth was a grand film, it was pure sci-fi and like most things in this internet influenced society hate for a particular film can be generated by a few media source and spread like wildfire IMO. It was not the best film of that year but it was well made and does not deserve the rap it gets.

    It really does though

I can't understand the hatred for The Lone Ranger. Sure, it's at least 45 minutes too long and the middle really sags but it opens and closes with the most thrilling set pieces of the year. I found it to be one of the best blockbusters in years and it's one of the best looking films in a long time. it's hard to hate a film that contains so many homages to the work of the truly brilliant Buster Keaton

^It's nominated for an Oscar too, isn't it? Must be something good about it.

I haven't seen it myself and have heard opinions similar to your own Darko, but perhaps the negative Stateside reaction was down to the film meddling with a American (TV) cultural icon that holds a lot of emotional attachment. I don't think the Lone Ranger translated over this side of the pond so maybe Americans got annoyed with their treasured childhood memories being tinkered with? Similar to how incensed people get over the Transformers films (Though you don't need to be a fan of the toys to get annoyed about those films)

The show was popular over here, I know that my dad grew up watching it and all the DVDs of the older show are at home. The reason for the backlash was because the media were obsessed with the behind the scenes going ons and concentrated solely on that leading most to believe that it was a terrible film. Most reviews spent more time discussing the budget than they did the actual film.

Fair enough, just can't rightly recall it being on TV here & seeing much of a groundswell of fandom from geekier communities this side of the Atlantic. I do remember reading all the behind-the-scenes scuttlebutt all right. Must give it a whirl all the same - which makes one think the Razzies give its 'winners' a bit of a bump in the DVD sales. I do admit to wondering just how bad Movie 43 is supposed to be.

The Razzies have long become a bit of a one-joke, well, joke IMO. They pick on the easy targets and big names time after time. It would be interesting for them to show a bit of independent thought and criticise the more unexpected efforts, rather than the names and films that will grab them some cheap headlines.

I have a book by one of the co-founders that actually illustrates some sensible criticism and even perverse appreciation of bad movies. I don't think the Razzies have managed either of those factors in a long time.

just like their buddies over at the oscars the razzies have a sole focus on "Hollywood", whether its good or bad, its all kept in-house in L.A, news is news and all that counts is how many inches of newspaper you can cover

i saw movie 43 and lone ranger,

its kind of cheap to include lone ranger, its a pretty decent film, i heard the american indians had absolute uproar at the fact johnny depp played tonto, which helped to add to the failure, and also the exorbitant budget that being honest didnt translate to screen,

movie 43 isnt really what i would call a film, realistically their all completely separate short films, its like a collection of short stories but in this case they were presented as one, while it had a few good memorable line "its like a shotgun when he cums":D, it wasnt the worst film that i saw last year,

gangster squad was a big let down, probably not razzie levels, but die hard should have been a big mover at them, i find it hard to believe the 2 smiths were worse than willis, also oldboy and the counselor got fairly shocking reviews, i didnt see either, but from the amount of negativity im surprised neither popped up here,

I think a few have, but one of the more famous examples, and the one you could be thinking of, was Halle Berry turning up to accept the award for her performance in 'Catwoman'.

Sandra Bullock also tuned up to accept her award for All About Steve - the night before she picked up the Oscar for The Blind Side!

Also Paul Verhoeven for when he got nominated for Showgirls.

I'm sorry, but how in the name of God did Grown Ups 2 not win anything? That film was hands down the biggest piece of sh1t I have ever seen.

After Earth deserves any bad awards it gets.

It's bad, when a lead actor can't even narrate an opening sequence convincingly.

I will admit, it was the worst film I didn't see last year, as it was so bad, I had to turn it off after 20 mins, it was absolute muck, and I doubt the remaining hour and a bit could have improved it.

Lone Ranger is genuinely worth a watch, it's far too long, it's tonally all over the place at times veering from slaptstick so fairly dark for a family blockbuster film, and Johnny Depp just does his usual shtick, but as Darko said it's one of the best looking films in ages. There are some genuinely gorgeous shots in it, including some lovely Sergio Leone homages and the climax is absolutely brilliant.

I went to see The Lone Ranger on release and thought it was a blast.
Depp as a native American jarred initially but aside from that it was a riot.
The hate, aside from the race issue, seemed to be about budget and filming issues the movie had.
To me it's the same as the treatment of John Carter the previous year, a good night at the movies being hated for lots of issues, few of which were on screen.
For the record, I also had a great time at Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer, so there may be something wrong with me...

Most people who grew up with the Lone Ranger would be quite old by now (well over 60). I think it was that people are sick of Johnny Depp and the race issue didn't help

Depp is a complete turn off for me at this stage. Same Jack Sparrow rambling performance, regardless of the character.

I think that Depp needs to take a step back and try his hand at acting. He has a few interesting roles coming up but the last time he truly impressed was in Ed Wood.

can not think of the name off the top of my head but that dark scifi that's upcoming looks promising

I agree. They just go for the most famous names that will get them the most publicity.
