    Lads,

You must have noticed some crazy prices demanded / paid for some classic cars recently.

Looking at the market over last few years (I'm mostly interested in Mercedes r107 SL / SLC) , it's hard not to notice some to resemblance to housing market situation from not so long time ago.

How long will the price increase trend last? Is the market likely to collapse in the nearest future?

    What do you think?

Well, 'paper never refused ink'( and DD rarely refuse to place an ad ) so asking for big bucks doesn't guarantee that it'll be sold/worth that much. There are some out there who confirm the 'fools and their money.....' phrase and you'll see the same car re-advertised soon after when the buyer's found the hidden rot :o
I watch these 'Wheeler-Dealer / Texas Car Wars shows and SOMETIMES they turn a few bob but equally they can lose as well - and that's in markets that are bigger than lil'ol'Ireland
In my present frame of mind :( I wouldn't buy anything because I couldn't see myself having the time/money to enjoy it - win the Lotto  and then MAYBE I'd tidy up stuff I'm stuck with,tax/test/insure them and just look for a swop for something else if the humour took me. (Speaking of swops / trade-ins, there are VERY FEW out there willing to swop/trade, EVERYONE just wants CASH, and that means they know the market is dead

Maybe sell to the US - http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/?0=0&dealer_id=811&adtypeFacet=Vehicles for Sale&seller_typeFacet=Dealer&sort=c_time_desc&page_size=15&makeFacet=Mercedes-Benz

Both the housing market and the classic car market are badly affected by "loss aversion" whereby people won't sell for less than they paid even if the "market value" has moved downwards.

That being said there is a limited supply and the more emasculated and same-y modern cars become the more premium will be attached to the classic car. All my life I have coveted an E-Type and all my life it has stayed maddeningly out of reach :-)

The only potential cloud on the horizon I can see would be electrification - if the infrastructure moves such that owning a petrol car at all is a major expense then the value of a classic car will head to the floor.
