Taxing used car for first time

    Right lads bought a second hand car from a garage there over a week ago now got the log book back but I won't be driving the car until February so is it possible for me to declare the car off the road for the month of January now and if so ..how? Cheers also what paperwork will I Need when taxing it

    Short version though as I understand the changes is that you won't be able to declare it off the road for January because it now has to be done in advance (ie: you would have had to do so back in December)

    So I'm afraid you'll have to pay tax for January onwards

    You can do it all online, go to motortax.ie and click on pin retrieval, enter your details and your pin will be emailed to you, proceed to the page to tax your car and at the bottom of the page there's a link to declare the car off the road

    He only bought the car so he can declare it off the road for January, done it yesterday

    don't you have 10 days to declare when buying in this situation? or did I dream that?

    You have 10 days from when the registration cert was issued
