Jerking while idle.

Hope that didnt sound too rude :P

Last few days my Seat Ibiza has been slightly 'jerking' or shaking a little bit when idle at traffic lights. This stops as soon as I accelerate or move.

Any ideas what could be causing it would be greatly appreciated! :)

    Havent noticed any difference.

Was thinking could it be the engine mount, spark plugs or piston heads.

Just shudders/ jerks/ when idle at traffic lights or stopped for any length of time.

My 1.2 Polo (same engine I believe?) was doing the same, changed the spark plugs and that sorted it. Not guaranteed to solve it in your case but be a good point to start off.

Cheers. May give it a go. Hoping its something small like that, and not more serious.

Could also be a dirty throttle body. Lots of info on how to clean on the web.

Had similar symptoms with my BMW - fuel injectors removed and overhauled with ultrasonic bath solved the problem.
It seemed that they were mismatched in spray rates due to accumulation of minute dirt particles over time.
If you want to try the same, there are plenty of injector services advertized online, but as an easy and inexpensive solution I would recommend waiting until the fuel tank is very low and adding a fuel system cleaner called Dipetane, available at most motor factor shops - use twice the amount stated on the bottle and drive about 10-20Km and you should notice a difference.

Refill the tank and add the recommended amount of the product and continue to do so each time, this will keep the fuel delivery system in your car in top condition.

    Best of luck.

3 cylinder 1.2? Heavy electrical load on a cold morning? Be surprised if it didnt give a shudder every 10secs or so...

A diagnostic check would be a good start.

Throttle body probably needs to be cleaned and re-adapted to the engine.

What county are you in? Some one here might be able to plug car in for you

I have no useful advice regarding your car, but that is surely an early contender for thread title of the year.

    No its not an automatic.

Mate of mine had a look at it last night (mechanic)

Have it booked into the garage next week, thinks it could be the piston heads.

I will post back here Friday week and let everyone know what exactly it was.

Thanks for all the help and advice :)

Would be interested to hear if your mechanic recommends changing 'piston heads' after a check up - let us know how you get on!

My car has the same issue atm. Car was in a garage for other work and was told by garage man that it may be due to a damaged fuel injector in the engine and that it may be a warranty issue.

Went back to where I bought it and guy said it was most likely washed diesel. Was given Diptane which I am trying out now. Some improvement so far but see how it goes.

I have been buying diesel in cheaper stations so it may be true.

Bluefang - was removal and overhaul of injectors expensive?

I have a same problem with my 2006. I was thinking that it could be the Egr Valve as that came up on a diagnostic test? Would I be right in saying so?

OP One much cheaper possibility that no one else has mentioned is brake vacuum hose. If its the type I think it is then the plastic goes hard and splits so instead of creating a good vacuum you are sucking air into the manifold. At high revs you don't notice it but it makes idling really rough.

Hey all. Just to reply to the cause...

Garage at first thought it was the valves.

But turned out just to be spark plugs, so not too bad at all. Got car serviced since it was time.

So in all, could have been lot worse.

Glad to hear that OP, I had the same issue with mine.

Always good to start off with the cheap and easy stuff! What a difference a service can make
