Hotel backtracking re room rate

    Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice/steer on something wedding related. My fiancee and I are getting married in July and had contracted to 25 rooms at 150 euro per night. They are almost booked up as friends and family booked over Xmas which is fine.

Previously, we had been informed by the wedding co-coordinator and the accommodation co-coordinator (via email and in separate emails, as recently as last month) that any additional rooms would be offered to guests at the wedding rate. However, a new wedding co-coordinator has taken over and has said this isnt the case. That after 30 rooms, they will have to charge best available rate (210 euro per night!). We feel this is unfair and is the hotel blatantly going back on their word.

Has anyone experienced this and if so, how did you deal with it? Or advice on how best to tackle it?

    Many thanks in advance.

You have it written in an email, insist on it.

Thanks for coming back to me. We've tried insisting but she's not budging (she even copied and pasted a page from booking.com with 210 as best available rate to illustrate her point (not very professional!). She says all she can offer is 5 extra rooms at that 150 rate. We've 2 seperate emails on it too.

very frustrating. tempted to go to hotel manager.

Why wouldn't you? It seems like the obvious next step. Reprehensible behaviour by the way. Are they trying to suggest that you have forged the email?

Take it above her head then, contact the hotel manager and if they don't budge, if it's a hotel chain, speak to head office.

Totally agree. Dig your heels in especially since you have it in writing. You are bringing a huge amount of business to the hotel don't forget that. Sounds like they want to squeeze even more out of you/your guests. Very similar thing happened my sis many yrs ago but they had it in writing and stuck to their guns and got it in the end. Sounds like the new one is chancing her arm.

Thanks everyone. We'll see how this one plays out. I'll let you know. New owners are coming into the hotel on Monday so might just wait to ask to speak to them.

    Do and the manager.
I would be extremely worried if they are back tracking on agreed terms.
Is their a contract in place?
Are the rooms cheaper through a 3rd party booking site?

there's a contract in place but only for the contracted rooms. The remaining rooms - we were told in person and via email that the same rate would be available and now she is saying just 5 rooms (of the other 25) will be available at the wedding rate. just sucks.

I would be so angry with them.
Did you check3rd part sites? we usually always get a better rate on them.

have checked a few sites and there's no availability on any of them. in fact, looks as though she copied and pasted a screen shot from their own booking engine.

Brilliant news. Once you have written evidence it's always good to pursue. Make sure any other agreements are in writing!! Enjoy the planning.

    Thought they would...

Great to hear. I would also request a different co-ordinator. This one doesn't have any professionalism by the looks of it, especially when she tries to backtrack on her predecessors word.
