The purpose of taxation is to provide for government spending without inflation. The provision of public goods such as roads and other infrastructure, schools, a social safety net, health care for the indigent, national defense, law enforcement, and a courts system increases the economic welfare of society if the benefit outweighs the costs involved.

Banana republic is a term in political science for a politically unstable country whose economy is largely dependent on the export of a single, limited-resource product, e.g. bananas. It typically has stratified social classes, including a large, impoverished working class and a ruling plutocracy that comprises the elites of business, politics, and the military. This politico-economic oligarchy controls the primary-sector productions and thereby exploits the country's economy

Hope I cleared that up for you

    Do you have a TV?
Yes = you need a TV licence, so buy one.
No = you don't need one so don't buy one.

I'll presume what I like thanks. Either it's your mail or it's not. You shouldn't be reading other people's mail. Send it on to the Landlord or if you're the landlord send it on to the forwarding address.

If you have a TV buy a license, simples.

Just pay it by Direct Debit maybe? 13.30 a month.

I dont have a television set where im living at the moment.
I have Smart Phone tablet & old Laptop,
Inspector does call around & from speaking with neighbours works on the presumption that everyone has a tv which is BS.

This New Communication tax is coming into effect from January 1st 2015 So going to have to pay either way then :(

Where would it state on an envelope the amount owed on any bill or debt? Or the fact its a warning for final payment

Anyway, way off topic, the TV licence is for the house you live in. When you move, you can transfer that to the new address. The bill is not really for the old tenant, they have his name because they got it from somewhere before

So the household is liable (i.e you if you live there) if you don't have a licence already

    €13 monthly if you can't afford €160 up front. That's only a few bottles of mi-wadi ;)

Hes not liable. The letter should have been sent back as no such person is at that address.

Thanks Bishop. If the fee of €160 wasn't so steep Everyone would pay it.

I would be annoyed if I had to spend even a tenner on rte. :pac:

Especially when you read headlines like this
Ryan Tubridy was the highest paid presenter in RTÉ for 2012 with total earnings of €723,000, up 12% on 2011

Laughing all the way to the bank

    Ah now, that's a bit back-and-white.

Actually, TV license warnings generally come addressed as "to the occupier". So the OP didn't open another person's post. (At least knowingly)

How do you know that he / she doesn't have a TV license? Let alone a TV in the first place.

Sure they do, that's the second step once they get a name from somewhere.
