    No it's not.
    2. It is hereby directed that section 12 of the Firearms
and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990 (No. 12 of 1990), shall
apply to the following descriptions of weapons:

( q ) the broad knife known as a machete
    or matchet.

Section 12 of the act to which it refers states:
    12. —(1) Any person who—
(a ) manufactures, sells or hires, or offers
or exposes for sale or hire, or by
    way of business repairs or
    modifies, or
(b ) has in his possession for the purpose
of sale or hire or for the purpose of
repair or modification by way of
    business, or
(c ) puts on display, or lends or gives to
    any other person,

Section 12 of the Act and (q) on the regulations I posted. Note these may have been amended.

Likewise, all outside Dublin though. Like a lot of things, it tends to be let go unless someone cooks up a fuss. There's nothing inherently more dangerous about a machete (or a katana for that matter) than the twelve inches of sheffield steel I keep in my kitchen drawer.

Why can't I buy heroin in Argos despite the fact that I can buy it outside the Corpo building?

Maybe because EBay does not want to break the law and be prosecuted, with all the bad publicity that entails.

Are there any other rules about
    legal import knives into ireland?

Do I need a license for import or selling knifes?
Don't want to have troubles, at custom when package with knifes arrive.

Ask a solicitor, can not give legal advice here, if you are intending importing such products you need proper legal advice from a professional.

They might sell more of them if they didn't call it a "fight knife".
