New blade

I got this stuff for Christmas as well as a brush: http://www.amazon.com/Body-Shop-For-Men-Shave/dp/B001PD919W

Seeing as I am using this instead of the tinned gel I thought I may as well investigate moving on from my Gillette Fusion (non-battery one) razor.

Anyone have any hints on what to move to? I generally shave once every 3 or 4 days and wouldn't have massive amounts of growth (I would never be able to grow a beard).

I like a close shave, and I find sometimes my skin can be a bit sore after a shave.

Any recommendations for a new blade or type of blade for beginners?

This is probably really vague, sorry! :pac:

    Welcome aboard !

My recommendation would be a razor like this
    http://www.shaving.ie/products/muhle-r89-classic-razor.html

It is a good choice for someone starting with a DE razor (right balance of mild/aggressive).
Consider it an investment as the razor will last for decades, all you'll need to replace are the blades
which cost roughly between EUR10-30 per 100 pack of blades with each blade giving 3-5 shaves.

You will also need blades, pick up a sample pack to see what works for you and suits your skin/stubble.

Stick one of these in your order. every gent should have one regardless of how they shave. No excuse or need for messing around with bits of tissue stuck on your face.

Have a read of the thread where Adox was raising some questions as he started out with a DE.
It addresses some of the common questions we all had when starting out.

I think that an adjustable razor is best because you can set it to the least aggressive setting to start with and then make it more aggressive as your skill increases. I use a Gillette Super Speed from the late 1940's which I bought on ebay for about 20 dollars.

    something like this
