Hi I'm looking to find information on windsurfing around Lough Ree , Athlone. It probably isn't the most popular spot compared to certain coastal areas but if theres water and wind right? :D
I know there is a small boating club called baysports located beside the hodson bay golf club, and went for a visit yesterday only to find that they are currently closed. Would anyone here know what season they operate in?
I did some wind surfing when i was younger and am looking to get back into it, so i'm basically looking to see if they provide boards to rent? and maybe some help with rigging as well!
Or does anyone know of any other wind surfing facilities around the lake?

    Many thanks!
    Kieran

Ideally a windsurfing club would be based on the east side of the lake. Then you have the steady prevailing wind to get you up and going immediately, and also blowing beginners ashore instead of out across the lake.
As an example, Blessington Sailing Club is on the western side of the lake and is sheltered in most winds - boats can sit at the water's edge and not be bounced around and battered. Blessington Board Sailing Club (if it still exists) is on the eastern side with the prevailing wind blowing ashore.
    Jim.
