Interesting to see if it is accessed in the event of a warranty claim. :D

Never a good idea for any corporates to have access to this type of information.

To my knowledge, the garage is not allowed to access this information without your explicit consent - i.e. it's not a requirement of a regular service that this information be accessed. At least in the EU, Ford don't (or shouldn't anyway, we'll see what the Germans make of this type of privacy invasion scenario) know who is breaking the law. They may have the capacity to get this information but the information should not ordinarily be accessible.

I do know that all cars 2013 and newer sold in the US have an "accident black box" present in the systems, that is accessed in case of an incident to better understand the causes of the incident.

Not a coincidence that in most countries now Ford provides vehicles for government fleet. BB watching big time. ;)

Farley himself then walked back the statement, saying "I absolutely left the wrong impression about how Ford operates. We do not track our customers in their cars without their approval or consent."
If they can access info they probably do. They're just not telling anyone.
It's like iphones and google that routinely track your location whether you want it or not.

Do you really think anyone in your local ford garage or ford Ireland (or anywhere further up the chain) cares that you were speeding on some road 6 months ago? That would have to be among the most tedious of data to have to analyse for absolutely no gain to the company that's there to make money, not spend it having people go through useless information.

No they don't care if anyone speeds.
Informations collected by companies (mine too) is ultimately to help understand what the customer is doing so our product can be tuned to suit their needs.

We are going waaay OT here, but you seriously think data published/recorded on social networking sites, online stores, and to stay on topic gps on-board devices are being monitored and analysed by people?
In what century you live in?

How hard it is to invent and implement softwares that constantly watch what you and me doing on the internet? What interest us, travel, shopping etc patterns?

Ever noticed adsense, personalised advertisement based on your previous clicks on the net? How long before the same applies to our driving style monitored by the mentioned gps system? Say I like to brake late and hard, and not surprisingly I'd get a ****load of ads of brake pads, discs etc?

Take a step forward what if these datas, driving habits will end up in the hands of the insurance companies and they(of course again, not by people)after evaluating it increase your and my premium??

Most people wouldn't even notice the laws implemented beforehand to give the green light for these kind of bull**** all of course in the name of road and personal safety.

PS: I thought conspiracy theorist and tinfoil hat cliche is a thing of the past now and people starting to get informed more and more.

Ford have confirmed that they have NO interest in the activities of 1.4 focus drivers on ireland's N roads.
They tried to analyse them, but even an elderly 386 powered PC was seen to flash the message "Please, no more. Make it stop! I can't take it anymore zzzzzzz"

Just GOOGLE OBD3 to see whats coming to your new car soon.
    • The on board computer in your car will communicate with road side beacons and shop you for all sorts of things.
    • Stop worrying about the check engine light on the dash, the car will let the NCT know that there is an issue with the car and schedule an "Out of cycle test" with a notice to the owner in the mail.
    • As with mobile apps, the sky is the limit. If you can imagine it then its possible.
Big Brother is truly just around the corner!

Good job we live in a backward society where expenditure would be deemed too costly :D
