Cheltenham Plot horses

Just said I'd set this thread up..I know Aidan is chomping at the bit to tell us his but I said I'd add 2 to the list given my expectations on 2 of pipes horses yesterday came true and both were totally flat in prep for a race down the line no doubt.

His excellency - priced so far only for the grand annual ( respectable Cheltenham form which would strengthen his case as a festival plot horse)
Notus de la tour - another pipe horse which has fallen off the radar and been running over hurdles as of late. May not be kept for march but no doubt being primed for a handicap before the season closes

Regal encore has about two stone in hand some work from honeyball and jp getting it a mark of 130.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

That bizzare run of regal encore in Hexham is one that lingers in the memory.

More to do with the fact he shouldn't have been anywhere near as big as the 2/1 he was this morning.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's tucked away for the paddy power

David Pipe is due to win his father's race very soon imo so I would watch any thing he might aim for that. Have seen the liquidator tipped for it.

couldnt touch Holywell with such poor jumping, would do well to get round let alone win at Cheltenham.

Thats a very blinkered view ;)

Ned Buntline will get better when he starts to put it all together and develops physically but he is being raced on his merits. It's not like he is currently being raced to disguise having a stone in hand or anything.

Pique Sous will be on a nice mark when he pops up in the County.

Sweeps Hill runs here at towcester after a long absence. Classy in his younger days, might trot about today and once more before being aimed at a handicap in march?

Travelled beautifully and then came to an abrupt halt. Hope he's ok

Yes i was watching the race as well Sweeps Hill was going very easy Richie Mclernon reported the gelding lost his action and then the vet reported Sweeps Hill bled from his nose so hopefully we will see him at Cheltenham

Wonder will we be seeing Ted Veale in the Grand Annual after today's 'effort'...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

The Romford Pele looks very well handicapped for the 2 1/2 mile novice handicap chase.
A mark of 134 is very lenient based on very creditible runs behind the likes of Balder Success, Taquin Du Seuil, Oscar Whisky & Wonderful Charm.

The Grand Annual was pretty obviously his target ever since he ran around in behind the triers in the novice chase at Cheltenham in November.

I have since heard though that the handicapper rated that race around Ted Veale using his hurdle mark, so hopefully he’ll get a rating in the 140s.

If he gets a bent rating, I hope he unseats at the last when half a furlong in front in the Grand Annual.

I have a feeling that he (Sweeps Hill) is being aimed at chelt for a big hcap. He was friendless in the market and as you said traveled really well. I wouldn't be surprised if that run was the plan

Hopefully he wont be the only handicap blip running in this ;), and i would doubt he would be much value on the day..

Quick Jack will win a handicap at the festival!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭Mossey Joe

Ted Veale got a mark of 146 (i think) for his novice chase effort at Cheltenham, can't see the English handicapper letting him in to Grand Annual off anything less than 143/4ish...Not unworkable all the same but nowhere near as well handicapped as last year

unlikely imo, he couldnt win off 119 at the weekend, and the British handicapper has him set to run off 136 if he goes to Newbury/Cheltenham.

I've 2 for this, one is in the betting now one isn't.. And im sure you do know the one i have in mind mainly. Totally ground dependent the second one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I may be off, is one a ten year old

Yep . you know the one for sure, hopefully hell get good ground either Chelt or maybe preferably Aintree. I've seen a few thing in his runs this year on soft ground that make me think his mark of now about 140 and good ground will hopefully lead to a barizan like result..

My main thought for that race had been Kumbeshwar, who was 3rd in it 2 years ago of 144, and is now down to about 140 after a few decent looking non staying races around those chelt 2m5f races this year. Id be shocked if he doesn't turn up in that race at a big price and have a great shot.. He has had a eye-catching run or two since that race, and i rekon he wont be far away. He is more flexible ground wise 33/1 at the moment at likely to be around that on the day..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Yeah Kumbeshwar one I've my eye on thought he ran really well at the weekend too think it was off 143. Thought the handicapper was very unkind to him ever since he was second to Sprinter Sacre and got half a stone for that

Traveled well for most of the race just didn't stay the extra 4 furlongs, i think he is ideal for that race as it takes a bit of class, and he has already been close in it when only 5... And his run in the Haldon over 2m1 earlier this year of 152 (he was 4lbs out of handicap) , looks very good now of his current mark.

Yeah, hasn't been entered for anything as far as I can see.

Said the last day he ran I didn't think he was a plot job. Just looks like a bit of a monkey to me.

Maybe not a plot horse but I feel Time for Rupert is down to a very winnable mark, iv backed him for the 3mile handicap on the first day, he's currently 18lbs lower than his highest winning mark, acts around the course, he ran well last time out and looks like one that could go well at a big price

May as well back him for anything you think he has a chance of winning with NRNB.

Thought this one was on a very generous mark myself but he's definitely very regressive.
