    Hi,

I'm looking for a black petticoat for under a 50s style dress. I've looked at reviews of a few online, including Hell Bunny, Flora and some on the Marina Retro vintage store online.

Just looking for some advice on:

    - what kind of material? Tulle, organdy (I never heard of this material before) or net (the same as tulle?) or any other?

    - those brands or others you would recommend. Have read various reviews about itchy material and suchlike and would like something that I will wear again.

    - Anywhere in Dublin to buy one or recommendations of online shops?

    Thanks :)

I know very little about this kind of thing but my gf is big into the vintage/ 50's stuff- she got a great petticoat in a vintage store on the street between the back of the Powerscourt centre and George's arcade. She got hers in white but they had black too. It's tuile as far as I know and it doesn't attach to the dress so you can wear it with everything.

I was in the Retro shop in George's Arcade the other day and they had loads of these skirt. Not sure of prices but worth a look.

Can buy online from Vivian of Holloway. I bought my bridesmaid dress and petticoat from there. was really pleased with it.

I got two of these from Vivien of Holloway, which are the net material ones. Incredibly itchy but they make your dress sit out more I think.

I always buy petticoats from Tina's Square Dance Shop on eBay. I recommend her higher-end chiffon petticoats shown here, they are incredibly soft and beautiful. The problem with the Retro and VoH ones is that they're quite highly priced for what you get.

I have one from here, possibly based on a recommendation from you a couple of years back Dolbert! It's so lovely, incredibly full and soft and swishy.

Harlequin on Castle Market street, Beaux bows in George's Arcade and retro in George's arcade all carry petticoats. You can practically shout from on to the next of those shops, makes it easy to shop around
