From 10 1:2 stone to 8 1/2 by June

    I am a 15 year old girl, I'm 5 ft 11 and I weigh 10 stone 4. I want to be a jockey so badly so I NEED to lose 2 stone by June! That's when the racing starts and tips on how I can do it healthily? I'm doing my junior certificate and can't afford to do any crash diets! I have a treadmill and do a tone of horse riding! Is it possible for me to lose 2 stone by June? Thanks

    First off this post would be much better suited to the health and fitness forums, it's the place your least likely to receive any confusing misinformation. So I'd recommend reposting there or asking a mod to move this one.

    A very general rule of thumb is to try stick to losing 2lbs a week. For most people this is an amount achievable in a fashion that is maintainable. You will often hear of people who start a new fad diet dropping 10 lbs or more in a week, but if you look at the a month or more down the line they are almost always back to square one or worse. So to try to aim for slow and steady.

    I'd recommend using an app or website like myfitnesspal. Something that allows you to track calories and set targets.

    I'd be concerned about how much weight you want to lose. I know BMI isn't perfect but it rarely gives a wrong underweight reading, currently you are just over the line for healthy, if you lose 2 stone then you will be very much in the underweight category. Can I ask why they need you to be underweight to participate, or is it just that you want to be that weight to be competitive?

    Wouldn't 8st 4 be VERY light for someone of your height??

    I always thought jockeys were 'small' in height.

    8.5 stone is far too thin for your height. It would give you a bmi of about 17.2, meaning you'd be very underweight (18.5 downwards is the beginning of the "underweight" category, and you'd be significantly below that). It's probably completely unachievable too.

    Jockeys are small in statute, not just in weight. I think they're typically shorter than about 5'5, so I'm not sure you'd be eligible to be a jockey in any case :/.

    It sounds like you're a great weight now for your Height, and really healthy and active. You should be really proud of that!

    I have changed to 9 stone, I wAnt to be a national hunt jockey (jump) if Joseph o'brien can do it why can't i? My brother is 6ft and he's 9 1/2 stone and I a a national hunt jockey, I think some people need to realise that height isn't everything, it's completely your weight.
    Everyone considers me. As a fast learner and great upcoming jockey and I know ye all say in too tall, but I can do it, I'm going to a dietician in a few days to sort it out

    It's really because I want to be competitive, I also want to make it to the top :)
