Interesting but not surprising that the two fastest times recorded on the show on that assault course were both families with very strong running connections. One I believe is Mullingar A.C and the other was Annalee A.C. Some names I recognised as well.

The programme seemed to focused on the first 2 qualifiers tonight. Seemed a bit unfair on the last 2

Surprised this isn't getting more attention particularly given some of the GAA vs Athletics debates here in the past :D.

What does stand out from watching the first episode on the player last night is that the two families with the strong athletics links done best.

Anything with Davy Fitz in it is worth watching

Yup- hilarious to see the athletics guys absolutely smoke the GAA and rugby families Not that I expected any different :D:D:D

Best part is watching these "super-fit" rugby or GAA lads absolutely gassing/in bits as they come to the finish

In fairness, the GAA family from Monaghan ( in first group) were good.

Yes - interesting to see that he got the lion's share of the programme and a special mention in the credits - must check next weekbut it looked like he is involved in the production in some way (apart from taking part that is)

God I hate these shows. I was forced to watch the first 10 mins but had to leave the room. There is enough genuine drama in real sport without these contrived makey uppy ****e overwraught nonsense tv programmes manufacturing it for the "Reality" tv zombies. Soon somebody on the show will cry(if they haven't done so already), there always has to be someone crying about something on these things. Utter bull****e. Maybe mods could move this post to the rant thread? Its a good un.

I see what you mean to a degree. Must say, however, that my kids (7,9 & 12) loved it and have decided to pick a family to follow. Harmless fun for them and good for them to see that families can be active together and it's not just us dragging them out the door at every opportunity.

p.s. quality rant by the way :D

To be fair went to college with all three of the O Reilly brothers and I would be gassing it at the end of sessions trying to keep with them :D

I saw the 2nd half of this show and to be honest I did have a little laugh to myself.
Most of them are far from Ireland's fittest family, but drawn from a variety of sporting backgrounds.

I thought it was extremely badly edited, they seemed to cut the last two races very short and if they're gonna commission a series like this, then give us a better insight into each family, show us more of the race than the last minute or so and give us a bit more detail on the training their "coach" puts them through.

It could motivate some family's or kids to get out and do something, so that could be worthwhile, but it's a typical RTE production, terrible execution.

Agree wholeheartedly. But at least the losers aren't voted off by the viewers each week.

One thing I learned is not to fear picking fights with black belt martial artists, they won't be able to catch you to give you a hiding.

Thanks, I was happy with that one:D. Im not going to labour the point, maybe these things do some good but Im sceptical. I belive it just encourages virtual reality at the expense of real reality, but thats only opinion. Plenty of local sporting events and clubs could do with the time and attention these shows suck up. There are lots of good roll models playing amature sport every weekend with nobody watching while wannabe "celebrities" hog the limelight in this fake contest that probably is scripted and contrived from the start.I do think tho that kids know the difference, maybe moreso than most adults do.

kids definately see the difference but see this as a bit of fun. For the record, they spend time playing sports themselves (the dreaded GAA ;) and swimming and the eldest two will come running with myself and my oh) and they see plenty of the real thing sports-wise. as I said, harmless fun.

Fully agree with this and like a lot of RTE stuff - great idea but terrible execution. What I find really interesting about it is that it's a good opportunity to compare athletics with other sports in terms of fitness (ok in a very contrived way) but it does show that athletics fares extremely well against the other more popular sports in this country and that has to be good PR for athletics. It's a better benchmark than some of the internet debates on GAA players vs Athletic club members.

Anything that get's families/kids to get out and do something/ join the local athletics club is all good in my book.

I'm a member of Annalee AC and would be surprised if membership didn't go up as a result of the exposure from a show like this.
