    after reading about a one man protestor being messed around by a car dealer people should really read this EU directive

    http://www.acc.com/legalresources/quickcounsel/socgaagiteu.cfm

    tldr ;

    A two-year guarantee applies for the sale of all consumer goods everywhere in the E.U. Be careful: in some countries, this may be more, and your company may itself offer a longer warranty period.

    When a consumer in the E.U. buys a new product, it should look and function exactly as advertised. Counsel should be aware that the following rights and responsibilities apply everywhere in the E.U.:

    If an item does not look or function as it was advertised, or if it is not satisfactory, the consumer has the right to receive a replacement or to get his money back if the replacement was not given in a reasonable time at no extra cost. If consumers buy goods that turn out to be faulty, manufacturers must compensate them for any personal injury or damage caused to property.

    Try returning something with this on paper ... I got nowhere on the 30 day rule for faulty immediate replacement not fix or refurbish on a mobile... The shop tried to fob me off with RMA manager gave same spiel... Some businesses are crooks. I remember seeing in some shops no sales under €6 on lazers till they were reported.

    only thing you need is the receipt, if the manager doesn't know his job it's not your fault.

    i've had jumped up managers try to fob me off but i didn't let them, if you start talking loud enough that other customers will hear about the warranty and point out that it's the responcibility of the re-seller to replace and the manufactuter conpensates the re-seller it really makes them look bad for trying to fob ya off.

    Had the receipt and all knew my rights he/they just talked around in circles. Some company's just don't care once they have sold you a product.

    Remember buying a Blackberry (remember those) and it broke after 2 weeks. Randomly shutting off every few hours. Lad in O2 wouldnt listen, completely fobbed me off asked me to reproduce how it was faulty or else I couldnt do anything. How can you reproduce a randomly occurring thing. Asked for a manager. Focker immediately turned around and got me a new one. Sometimes kicking up a fuss and asking for a manager is the only way to get what you are entitled too. Never bought a phone from that store since.

    Re the chancer taxi man who tried to con/blackmail the car dealership and this directive.
    This directive wouldn't apply as he bought a second hand item.

    Guarantee and warranty are not the same.

    We didn't transpose that directive into law as sales of goods and supply of services act provides better protection

    This was not adopted into Irish law because our sale of goods act already offers greater protection for consumers for up to 6years.

    As already said we didn't put this directive into law as the Sale of Goods Supply of Serivces Act provides better protection.
