St Vincent de Paul paid my neighbours Illegal Dumping fine

St Vincent de Paul have been told to not bother coming out to our neighbourhood again after paying for a significant Illegal Dumping Fine for a particular insufferable neighbour.

To cut a long story short, this is not the first time they have been caught. On this occasion they were after dumping 14 large bags of rubbish by the riverbank. They had a court appearance and a fine but couldn't care less since St Vincent de Paul paid 100% of the fine.

If this is what St Vincent de Paul are doing with charity donations then I, and the rest of my neighbours, have no intention of giving them anything ever again.

Have heard of similar stories to this before, one being a person went to a hotel for lunch then declared they had no money to pay for, phoned the svp and asked them to pay which they did.

That's appalling if true. Has there been anything about it in the papers?

Absolute scumbags. I would make an official complaint to the Local County council.

If they got a fine then I'd imagine the council already know.

Same here its the tale of svp being told to stay out of the area that does it for me

The SVdeP often pays the company i work for on behalf of "poor unfortunates".

On all but one occasion the "poor unfortunates" came back about half an hour after the SVdeP representative left looking for a cash refund on what was bought for them by the SVdeP.

    Sounds bullshit.
Like the 'African woman who left the pram at the bus stop' type of story which spreads around. Everyone swears its true but yet no-one has actually seen it.

It could be possible. If they are contacted by a person distressed over a court fine that they cant pay, SVP feel that they are really helping them and maybe the people cant afford to pay for bin collection

I'm inclined to believe it's true tbh.

I know of one family in my hometown who get two seperate receipts for their weekly shop. One for the booze and fags that they pay for themselves. and one for the groceries that the SVdeP pays for.

I've seen this first hand myself and two girls i know who work in the supermarket in question have said it to me independently of each other and one of them was related to the family.

In my estate growing up there were families that had both parents working who never bought their kids anything for Christmas because they got taken care of each year. They used to think it was hilarious that someone else would buy the Santa presents for their kids.

The most damning example was last Christmas (2012) my brother in law was outside cleaning out his car and a guy from the SVdeP came up to him and asked him if he was "alright for the Christmas". He thought he was having his leg pulled and that yer man was pulling a scam so he asked to see his ID and it was all legit. The fella then proceeded on his merry way going door to door in the estate, presumably asking the same question.

I have. Well the lady was not African. She was a foreign national. She was running to the bus stop I was at pushing a buggy as the bus arrived. About ten feet away she took the child out of the buggy and just left the buggy. If somebody told me that story I would not have believed it but on my life it happened.

Regarding the SVdP. I have a friend who while training as a social worker sat on a local SVdP committee. He told me that any letters or requests that came in for money where all paid out on. None of the requests where refused.

Have another friend who is a prison officer. Representatives from SVdP come in regularly to speak to minority group prisoners where they get cigerettes and a mars bar if they come and talk to the representative.
