Can I ask what the purpose of said bike would be? Do you intend to race it or is it for fitness, sportives? Agressive geometry v sportive geometry?

You will get good deals on cracking second hand bikes for that price. As regards new bikes, you could get a decent frame (ie Giant Defy, Specialized Allez, Scott Speedster) but not a great groupset, and no carbon fork or seatpost.

If you can get up to Belfast, it's hard beat this for value.

Just for general fitness. Im only starting off cycling so dont know how into it I will get. Was recommended the Giant Defy in the bike ship.
That Btwin does look good but im using the BTW scheme so im not sure if getting to belfast will work or be allowed sadly. Would that Btwin be better than the Giant defy??

    Thank you

I'd go 2nd hand at that budget. You'll get better resale value on a 2nd hand bike when you inevitably want to upgrade.

How good is that bike compared to say the Giant Defy?

I got one of these last March, a Carrera Zelos from Halfords. I paid €370, they're now on sale for €320.

Have to say I've been very happy with it. Got it for general fitness and to lose weight. I didn't want to go and pay a huge amount in case it ended in the shed gathering dust so I picked that one, more for the price than anything else. I've done just over 4,000 km on it, and apart from wear and tear nothing had broken on it.

You might consider something like this first if you're not sure if you're going to get into cycling and trade up again in a few months if you're still at it. If you don't continue or just upgrade then you won't lose too much selling it on.

Byrybak's Felt f85 certainly looks a very attractive option.

Looks lovely alright. Wonder can I use my BTW for purchase outside of Ireland. Actually seems to be very good bikes on that website for under 700

I bought my bike 2nd hand on the btw scheme and got a great deal. Ring the shops and see if they have any 2nd bikes in stock.

Looks like a decent bike/spec for that price,if I were you I'd get the best bike I could on the btw spend the whole allowance on the bike IMO and add any extra's later yourself,it's just better when you go to trade in again or sell on you will get more for your bike

Worth checking out Chain Reaction as well as Wiggle, lots of bargains to be had on last years models.
