I'm deciding on a garden shed which I mostly want for storing bikes, along with some other garden stuff. I haven't decided on the size needed yet. It will most likely be a concrete block shed with concrete floor.

Sadly keeping the bikes in the house isn't an option.

    The basic requirements are:
    • Store 3 road bikes. I'm guessing that hanging on the wall would be best. I'll add wall/floor anchors for security.
    • Wife's bike. This is a 20kg hybrid so it will be kept on the ground
    • Kids' bikes x 2. Again kept on the floor.
    • Some garden stuff. A small electric lawnmower, strimmer and a few tools.
    • Sufficient floorspace to put one of the road bikes on a stand for maintenance without having to move stuff out.
Any ideas on size? Perhaps posting a photo of the inside of your bike shed/palace would also give me ideas on layout.

    Thanks!

Great idea for a thread K2, I'm in a similar position. Looking forward to seeing some serious palaces!

I have a ten by eight metal shed in which I store

    1 x Road
    3 x mountain
    1 x lady's sit up and beg
    2 x smaller kids bike

100's and 100s' of tonnes of crap that somehow made it's way into my bike palace (lawnmower, dege trimmers, tools, wetsuits, high pressure water thingy........)

There is enough to comfortably store things but nothing like enough to get a bike on a workstand. You could be looking at 10 x12 to allow for inevitable migration of other stuff into your workshop.

I got a nice wooden shed (more like a hutch!). Stores 2 bikes and lots if crap. Its only 1.6m wide by 1.2 deep I think. Cab get bigger and customers made from a place in Wicklow. Mine was €300 odd

just ordered a 10x10 metal shed today :)
    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/7058529.htm

cant wait for it to get here, lots of spanner spinning and blasphemous shouting at random objects that are just not doing what i want them to do.
the three bikes in the kitchen will finally have a new home

I need a new shed myself. My road bike resides in the house as there's no room in the shed because my hybrid, her bike, the kids bikes and the gardening sh1t consume all the space.

Security is one of the most important features to consider when building/buying a shed, don't skimp on the locks.

Please allow me to be envious! My dream!

I have to be content storing my four bikes in a tiny wooden shed in a postage stamp sized Dublin rear garden with the garden gear, barbeque and assorted other crap etc.

(As an aside, a neighbour, who resides in a stand-alone house near me, sought my assistance recently in relation to SPD SL's as he just got into cycling. I was in awe of his shed. It was massive and full of all types of outdoor gear - speedboats, kyaks, cannoes, scuba diving gear, jet skis, wet suits, skis, shooting gear, archery gear, hiking gear etc.)

    1 road bike
    1 MTB
    1 wife's hybrid
5 kids bike (only have 3 kids, so two bikes to go to rothar)

Some nice internal doors there, if anyone is interested :-)

Never been a problem for me, as long as the vents are kept clear and air is allowed flow then I've never seen moisture in there

It's been changed around a bit since I took that, bench is now on the right wall along with the shelves and a stand on the rear wall and on the left. White floor is an absolute pain to keep clean but I used to race motorbikes and the white floor makes it very easy to see an oil leak. Also makes it easy to find bits you've dropped. I could do with a third cheap stand to put the roadie on now as it's sharing the stand with the downhill bike.

Got the shed for an absolute steal too, think it cost me €510 and there's probably 60-70 quid of wood in the base and the floor is made of sheets of 3/4 ply

I got a 10*8 metal shed from Argos 2 years ago. I put it straight down on the patio which was a mistake, although im renting so didn't want to spend a fortune on it. The patio is now the floor and in winter the condensation is very bad. I tried putting vents in the roof which didn't help much.

Just yesterday I was out drying the inside of the roof with a towel

When I heard people complaining about condensation in metal sheds I never expected it to be actually dripping down from the roof.

I plastic barrier sheet is really needed for the base. A wooden base with a plastic sheet underneath or concrete would be even better. Some insulate the roof to help too.
Wooden sheds are better for condensation but I guess a good base is really needed for these too or you bikes will be rusty in no time. My bike is kept in the nice warm Garage ;). hers lives in the shed :D

If roof has non drip sheeting this won't be a problem. learnt this the hard way I'm afraid to say

Here is mine. Fits 5 bikes, plus wheels and boxes of gear, plus gardening stuff. I 've put a tubular heater that comes on few times a day to keep humidity low.

You are of course correct, specifically, rust is oxidised ferrite, one of the many elements that makeup a steel alloy.
Aluminium oxidises very quickly when exposed to air, and Aluminum oxide can be nicely coloured when the oxidation process is controlled.

    330-633809130531350000_cm-scale_w-800_h-710_q-80.jpg

its about 16 sq metres, lots of room, holds all my bikes and tools and stuff, has sattelite tv, alarmed, ground anchors etc. Dont have any photos of mine at the moment, but it does me fine.

The concept behind this thread is good; but for people to be showing their own personal sheds is just asking for trouble imo.

It would not be hard to identify people behind a user-name even while just scrutinising posting history on here!
For people to put on display where they keep valuables and how they are stored; not to mention showing the detail on entry & exits into said property is just crying out for their valuables to be stolen.

If people were to post examples, random examples would be okay in my eyes, but surely not their own personal storage buildings?!

    Just my cautious tuppence,

Just a thought here.....metal in any form will sweat in the winter and in my experience I have had to deal with droplets of moisture falling from the roof (underside)
Even my metal gates on my Garage sweat like hell in winter even though the roof iS clad with 2" Kingspan material.

    Just a consideration !!!
