Tax rates in post 08 cars are emmisions based not cc based and therefore two 1.9 TDI cars from different manufacturers can have different rates.

Saab's aren't a bad purchase and I've recently got one myself as has my brother. Both of our cars have been on the ball and apart from usual servicing consumables either car hasn't required anything else. Underneath your basically dealing with an Opel vectra so parts aren't too hard to find if you know where to look..

There are a few owners forums online that will be able to tell you the areas to watch out for but generLky I haven't hears much bad things about them.

I briefly looked at the TTDI which is 180bhp and it was I think 390e to tax for the year.. that was 2011 models

Different make cars have different co2 ratings which is what the new motor tax system from 2008 is based on. The lower the co2 rating the lower the motor tax.

Was the Saab an auto, some of the automatic versions of the same model had higher co2 ratings than their manual counterparts.

I got a 2007 93 Diesel in August. Love it. Sweet as a nut. Only thing I had to get for it was a new bonnet badge. 13euro on ebay.

People get too hooked up on cheap tax. Cheap to tax cars cost more to purchase. If you want cheap tax then be prepared to pay more for the privilege.

The engine in that saab is the same as in my car (alfa 159) same tax, but mine has 150hp. I'm sure saab must do a 150 version too, so if you are going to pay the high (for a post 08 daysul) tax you might aswell get some oomph.

In the alfa the 120bhp version is 8v and the 150 is 16v.

But expect a higher trade in value when you go to sell. Tax is 'dead money' where as you will recoup the extra you pay for a cheaper to tax car.

Equally if you buy cheap to begin with because of the high tax, you can afford to sell it on again cheap.
