It's being opened by the people who have Las a Tapas in Cabinteely. If it's as good as that place it'll be a fantastic addition to the town.

Not a coffee shop! I'm gutted.

If I had some cash I would take the odd shaped building and make it a casino. It is perfect. Discreet location. Parking. The Swingers would love it to. Seriously though the bad design would work for a casino.

Or a strip pub. The UK has them. Pound in the glass, probably have to be 2 euro here though. That would be cool.

I for one am all on for helping pretty girls through college.

That earlier poster, in another topic, claiming Greystones was boring. They wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

So when you're in there eating your tapas just think what could have been...

Hilarious FirstIn. Shhh, pound in the glass, we're not meant to know what that means. ;)

    .

I've been to one of them... just a normal pub other than the woman in the corner taking her clothes off and the people in the pub collecting pound coins in order to convince her to put them back on.

    It wasn't a pretty sight.

Have a strip pub and then bring back fr ted for a cinema protest!

It's me that was complaining the town is boring but then if you are skint and live in a town full of restaurants and cafés it would be dull! I guess I resent the fact that I haven 't eaten out in at least 2 years yet the restaurants are busy. Begrudgery Cheeky Chops!

Well then where did the "las tapas" name come from?

I love how it has four stars from 13 ratings already! ;-)

I used to eat in the Cabinteely one, and imo it's a decent addition to the main st.
A brave move considering we're almost reaching saturation point on the Main St on the restaurant front, but best of luck to them - at least it's not a McDonalds ;-)

Well there's a new Estate Agents just opened on the street so the economy is obviously on its way back. Peak Restaurant may still be some way off...

Then again, the new restaurant is replacing an old restaurant that closed, so the point about saturation still stands IMO.

I suppose it all depends on the quality, IMO good / high quality restaurants will do well in Greystones. I've only been to Bels twice and both times wasnt impressed, and to be honest 99% of people i spoke to about Bels had the same opinion .....IMO thats why it closed nothing to do with saturation.

YES! A good product will survive as long as there are customers! There are customers!

Myself and my partner eat there last night.
It was very busy, especially for a Wednesday night, at about 8pm it was almost full!
Perhaps this is just the “honeymoon effect” and people just want to see what it is like.

I have to say the staff were friendly, helpful and reasonably efficient.
The food was excellent and portions were generous.
Ultimately in terms of value for money, it is pretty much the Greystones norm.
    The deserts were average.
    Would I go back? Definitely

Was hoping to see a review of this restaurant. There are Lovely smells wafting from it every evening and hopefully I'll get to try it out soon.

Tried Las tapas myself a few weeks back and heres what we thought.

Staff: really nice and friendly, effiecent, all together excellent
Atmosphere: again place was packed, so a really good buzz about the place.
Interior : not keen on the tables in the middle of the floor TBH, the seem uncomfortable, and kinda lost anytime we book we will be requesting a table around the sides, not a big thing at all. (toilets could do with a revamp though)
Food: All dishes were lovely with exception for the fish dishes, they were rubberish but i put this down to them being incredibly busy and they probably under the heater too long thats all.
    Wine : really nice
Overall: all in all an excellent addition to Greystones and I for one will def be back.

We went a few Saturdays ago. The place was nice, the staff were nice - it was lunchtime and the lovely big windows and the warm yellow walls made it really pleasant to eat there. The toilets weren't great.

Also, I wasn't too impressed with the food - not nearly enough flavour for me. Not nearly enough garlic, not enough tomato, not enough lemon etc.. I lived in Spain for years and love the big robust flavours they have, and thought those were missing. It was ok but I was disappointed.

I'll have to go back and see if it was just an off day..:D

We dropped in last night for a quick glass of wine and a bowl of olives..

    Pros: It was sunny..

Cons: Pubic hair found in otherwise flavourless olives
Charged over €15 for 2 glasses of red and olives

Seriously guys ! What's the story ? The same would cost €4 in Barcelona !
The hair I can forgive but the price was outrageous. The same story with the last 2 'Tapas' bars that failed in the town - Greedy Greedy.
I'll be round in La Touche wines next time for better wine nearly half the price..

Just seen this ... <<<snip>>> Granted your opinion . But if you say Barcelona is cheaper then go ... You can not compare a wine TAKE AWAY with a resteraunt that has more over heads and Main Street presence ... I am going later this week and can not wait it looks busy and heard nice things. Will reply with my findings

Really? The hair you can forgive? This tells me that basic h&s is not being followed, more thank likely (best case) someone, a food preparer did not wash their hands after using the toilet. And you think the price is the problem?

The price stinks, for what you got, but the rest - to me indicative of bigger issues. Going to pass this onto someone who is intending on going down soon, they may wish to wait until there are signs that basics are being taken care of.

Went with some friends and my other half on Sunday - food was lovely, no problems. They had been the previous night (!!) and loved it then too - and the one of them had been the previous weekend and loved it then too.

So no negitive issues from my side. It is a bit expensive, but not massively so in comparison to The Port House for example. Would certainly go back, but still reckon the Port House would be my favoured Tapas place.

    Troll - no

Well travelled and experienced diner - yes

You're missing the point here - the whole ethos behind Tapas is good value snacks with a drink.

The Irish restaurant business have latched onto this and get it wrong nearly every time - charging way over the odds for the dishes and serving them as a mini main course priced like a starter !

It WILL be the 3rd Tapas bar in the town to go bust in 2 years for this reason..and that's not even broaching the poor H+S standards.

was in madrid - and while there was loads of tapas places as you describe - I was in two restaurants that were full meal based tapas - though were more sharing based - ie. a bruchetta type 'snack' - €20 for 8 pieces, chicken croquets - €20 for 9 pieces (i think it was).

So I would assume tapas is not exclusively as you would say it is, and can (in Spain) be more akin to the model Irish restaurants work too - more of a full meal/restaurant model.

The irish places are simply not the same style you demand them to be. The dinning habbits of the irish wouldn't be suited to ONE tapas restaurant in a town being able to stay in business. As you demand them, you have a drink and some tapas, paying little for either, and move on to the next place - in ireland that wouldn't allow the restaurant to actually cover their over-heads and where exactly are the patrons going to go for the next round of tapas?

Just wanted to post an update on the Tapas bar (was in twice over the weekend – OTT I know)… after my first experience I wanted to try it again and here’s what I thought:

Staff like the first time very nice / friendly the manager (think he is NZ or SA can never tell the difference) is also nice and welcoming . Background music was good… toilets still pretty poor def. need to be done up…
BUT there was a man I assume was the owner in both times I was there over the weekend and he was a right pain, he had a “grumpy” face on both times and proceeded to give out to the staff including the manager in front of the customers
(Bad form IMO he gave the place a bad atmosphere beside of his grumpy face and demur).

Food was very good I must say, hence the reason we went back twice, its reasonably priced IMO, it’s not crazy money at all. Muscles, Calamari, Prawns all very good etc.

Our bill came to €78, we had a bottle of white wine, cheese board, fish as listed above, salad, garlic bread etc. so including a tip €45 each… not bad value at all I have to say. Better than some of the early birds I have had in Greystones.

I have to say I think it’s a great little addition I like the portions not too much of the one thing….and I for one will be choosing it above other places in Greystones….
