    Mae is not dead....

@ByMikeMooneyham: Mae Young has not passed away. The source who reported her passing received incorrect information. Mae is gravely ill, but still alive.”
As in getting fired or something health related?

    Retirement.

Reading now that Mae Young might not actually be dead. Yet. That the guy who reported it originally has taken down the article

There's a very active retirement RUMOUR floating about. It is a small group of people who tend to be right. Hope it is not the case here obviously.

A forced retirement like Edge so

RIP Mae. She provided many great memories down through the years (and some not so great... Royal Rumble Bikini Contest - I was sure those puppies were real for a long time!!!)

What a tough cookie, taking all those bumps that you wouldn't even see some of the guys today taking. Powerbomb of the top rope from Bubba Ray through a table??? Get outta here! She was some lady!

Wait.....she wore fake puppies for that??!

Seen somewhere earlier she made her debut 10 years before Flair was born, how old was she when she was powerbombed through the table? What a woman. :(

The years 2000!! She was born in 1923 so do the maths.

"During this storyline, The Dudley Boyz, specifically Bubba Ray Dudley, powerbombed Mae through a table twice in back-to-back editions of Raw - the first being in the ring and the second, in which Young was bound to a wheelchair and neck brace, being off the entryway stage"

2000,so she would have been 77/78.

Love this video of her backstage with Vince and HHH after her birthday celebrations last year.

When you think of this and the Hardcore Holly story she makes Vince's grapefruits look like peanuts. Legend of a woman.

At this stage the only outlet I trust is WWE.com.

Mae Young and Moolah were booked to fight Hardcore Holly on Raw as a storyline punishment of some sort. Anyway, Holly is backstage and says to Mae that they're looking for him to hit her with a clothesline. He says ''Don't you worry darlin', I'll take care of ya out there''.

To which she replied, ''You better just bring it, motherf**ker''.

WWE.com reports Mae Young passing away

WWE.com and Stephanie McMahon's Twitter reported that Mae Young passed away tonight at the age of 90. It was the talk backstage at the tapings in Worcester, MA.

"There will never be another Mae Young," said Vince McMahon. "Her longevity in sports entertainment may never be matched, and I will forever be grateful for all of her contributions to the industry. On behalf of WWE, I extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends."

    RIP

Loved when she called the other Divas a bunch of sluts a while ago live on Raw. She just didn't give a rats. Saucy minx, always up for a laugh. Always seemed so happy in her life. Rest in Peace Mae

    RIP.

I found an article about those infamous powerbombs from D-Vons point of view. Her quotes sum up how amazing she was - especially in her old age.
"When you've got an 80-year-old woman like Mae Young, who you're supposed to put through a table, at first you go, 'What?'" said D-Von Dudley. "But when she comes up to you and slaps you in the face and tells you, 'Don't be a wuss with me; throw me through; I wanna go through' -- what are you gonna do? By far, that was the toughest person, pound for pound, we've ever been in the ring with."

Bubba Dudley addressed how delicately he did the move: "I picked her up very lightly, put her down very gently. After the match was over and we'd gone to the back, she came up to me, grabbed me by the wrist like only Lou Thesz could have done, 'Listen, hotshot, if you're gonna slam me, slam me like one of the boys.' You could imagine the look on my face, seeing this little, blonde lady telling me that. From there, we did the spot where I Superbombed her off the top of the stage, 12 feet from the ground, through two tables. She has since suggested to me on three different occasions that we do the same spot from the top of the steel cage.

Story making the rounds on Twitter.
Tributes have been paid today to one of the world's early pioneers of female wrestling who has died at the age of 90.

Mae Young became one of wrestling's most famous figures following an astonishing nine decade career.

It was reported last week that she was gravely ill. However, last night it was announced that she had died.

Among those paying tribute was actor and wrestler Dwayne Johnson, otherwise known as The Rock.

He said: "She is a wrestling pioneer. I truly had deep affection and respect for 'Aunty Mae' Young. RIP."

Known as The Amazing Mae Young, she joined the male-dominated sport when she was just 15.

She went on to become the first National Wrestling Alliance's U.S. Women’s champion.

Perhaps more importantly, she inspired countless women to join the sport.

The wrestling icon was first placed on a life support machine in December.

In 2008, she was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment hall of fame for her achievements in the sport.

The cause of her death has not been revealed.

Always enjoyed her appearances. The Rock was great with her.

One thing I always wondered: Was it an act when she was playing the scatterbrained horny old woman or was that what she was really like and was just pointed in the direction and let go to do her thing?

This just made me think, do you think Wrestlemania should do something similar to the Academy Awards and have a tribute video to those who died in the past year?

Maybe do it to close the Hall of Fame ceremony.

Unfortunately many wrestling deaths would show the industry in a grim light. Imagine in 2007 they would've had to show Test,Umaga,Mike Awesome. Men who died before their 40th birthday. Wouldn't look good at all.
