    Hi Folks,

I have two 2.5" HDD external cases that both work off USB 2.0. I have two HDDs - one of which is a new 1Tb and the other a 6Gb SSD. When I put these HDDs into the cases and plug them into USB nothing happens, the HDDs are not seen and not mounted. However if I take the same HDDs and connect them to an adapter I have that draws from mains down to molex connect with SATA power adapter the HDDs work fine. The kit is similar to this one http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/dd1a/.

I could understand how a regular HDD might require more power than an SSD but I would have assumed that the USB provided enough power - right now Im stumped on why this is happening. Any and all suggestions welcome.

    Dave
