A family member who worked in construction for 35years threw the head up after 2 and half years on the dole. He grabbed his tools and headed off down under and has been working since last nov but the works slowed down after his boss died and now he's thinking of returning home.

What I want to know, will he be entitled to sign back on after being out of the country for so long. I was told by 2 people that once your out of the country over a year, once you return, you aren't entitled to any state benefits. The other says 2 years. Any truth in this

Can make a claim at any time as long as they satisfy the conditions for Jobseekers and Habitual Residence condition, ie. Is Ireland their main centre of interest, do they have family ties here, are their intentions to remain in Ireland going forward? I don't see any issue tbh
