Thanks for that they get good reviews in america and a super price tag but to buy in the UK there on a par with Thorn bikes and the like £500 plus for frame.

I've a soma smoothie, not a double cross, but a club mate has one for touring. As a manufacturer, I recommend them. Great steel for a reasonable price.

yeah but only half the price in the states.
but a lovely looking bike for sure and loads of extras on the frame.

Lots of bikes are half the price in the states :-)

I have to say though, I paid a lot less in my lbs than the 505 pounds that your linked site changes for the smoothie.

If I was looking to buy a steel frame and fork for touring I'd be looking at the new kaffenback as good value and availability.

    Frame and fork for £250.

Or you could get the old model for less than £200 is you wanted disc only forks and size XL.

I got the soma in Stagg Cycles. They order in the frames.

From a quick reading of the specs of the kaffenback, the steel (brand at the very least, because it doesn't state the type of steel) would be better in the soma - tange infinity vs maxwell.
