Work for free?

    Hi,

I have no college or job and my only other option is emigration but I don't want to go down that route so I was thinking of maybe working for free in a pub or something so that it will at least get my foot in the door for a job. What do you think? I don't mind working for free but will any pubs take me on?

    What do you think?

If you're thinking of working for free then why not do an internship in a field that has better prospects e.g. IT or Digital Marketing. These fields are booming and also lots of internships available. You'd set yourself up for better career opportunities.

Of course these are only examples, do some research into internships and find a field you are interested in. Liking what you do means you will apply yourself and learn faster, and you will become better at your job.

Education or emigration would be two much better options than working in a pub for free imo, and like the poster above said, if you are willing to work for free you might as well pick an area with better prospects. I would look into a PLC or something like that instead. However if you really think working in a pub would suit you, ask if any will take you on for work experience, they might take you on, esp. if you are female and easy on the eye. Pub near me takes people on for work experience and that seems to be the criteria as far as I can tell. If you decide to this I would suggest a pub that does food would be best so you could get experience in that side of things as well.

I know a lot of people slate it, but would you not look at a Jobsbridge internship? worst case is you get 6/9 months experience doing a crap job (if its that bad you can always leave it /report if for not being a proper jobsbridge role). Best case you might get a paid job (and a foot in the door to a career) out of it.

As a rule I would not hire somebody to work for free in a cash business like a pub, certainly not behind the bar.
