    Hi All,

I'm looking forward to operation transformation but not sure whether to start following it today or tomorrow. Is anyone else starting it today or tomorrow?

The menus are going up toningt after the show I think. So I suppose tonight would be a good time to plan your meals for tomorrow based on that!
    Good luck!

but the menu hasn't been uploaded yet

In that case, I'll quote Mark Twain: "Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well"

What's the deal with weighing people in stones and lbs? Why not metric?

Even if it was in straight lbs, I could convert in my head easy enough, but stones is taking it a bit far. Might as well give their volume in hogsheads at that stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,694 ✭✭✭✭Alf Veedersane

How many hogsheads are there in a stone?

The site is now live so the menus, shopping lists etc are all accessible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,116 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

The app is awful. It's not really an app from what I can see. It appears to be nothing more than an embedded webpage.
A real app could give you reminders and alerts, this app won't...... Even it it worked in the first place.
The webpage is obviously getting loads of hits right now so it is only working intermittently and then just crashes.
RTE need to get their act in gear, they should at least get the basics right and make sure shot works before making it live, it's not rocket science and they know there is going to be big hits on it so make sure the website can handle it.
I remember trying last year and got the same crap so got pjssed off and never bothered any further.... I'm right at that stage now.....

A website not working shouldn't be the deciding factor on whether you want to lose weight or not.

They should run the program in november if they are seriuos about promoting lifestyle changes.

They run it in the new year knowing people will tune in for the 'new year, new me' thing.

People find it easier to start with a clean slate in January. If they can get a start on it they'll find it easier to sustain. It's a mental challenge as much as a physical challenge for most. So starting in January isn't a negative, in my humble opinion.

How do they always manage to pick people with sob stories?

    ^^^ They have!!!!
Emotional issues often lead to weight gain. They are going to be using a holistic approach to deal with the issues.

Airing the show in January also means more viewers = more advertising $$$$

I dont really watch the show, although a friends relative is on it this year so I may tune in once or twice.

Am I right in thinking that Dr.Eva (irritates me) is gone? That'd be a good move for sure with the nutiritional spew that I have heard come out of her mouth !

Who said i wanted to loose weight? I'm lucky enough that I'm not fat and I don't need to loose weight.

I am making a point that they roll out this stuff and ask people to use their app and website and straight from the off it doesn't work. I just checked there again and still the website is down and so called app is not working at all.

The whole point of the show is for people to use their website for tools to follow to help them loose weight. It is not always easy to motivate yourself to get fit and loose weight, and the aim of this show along with the non-working website is to be the motivator.

For the record, I'm 37, male 6ft, 13.5 stone, reasonably fit (play footie, golf and cycle). I have a healthy enough diet - yea sure I eat a bit of crap from time to time, but not every day, and I drink a bit here and there (2 nights on the sauce in December, and maybe 3 days having a couple of glasses of wine or beer with my dinner - - so am far from being a heavy drinker)

I would like to improve my fitness and figured that I would follow the show for the recommended workouts to motivate me

Looking at the Operation Transformation website it still shows last years leaders, menus, etc.
For a show that encourages website / app interaction I think this is very amateurish from RTE.
The idea behind the show is great but they should make sure that all the associated items are in place before publicising them.

    My point still stands.

It's not the only website with training material. It shouldn't be the factor for you not doing it.

If only they'd hurry up and invent the internet so people could look up simple exercises and healthy meals

The show is the motivator. Not the website. The show shows how people canturn their lives around by being healthier through eating healthy portions of good food and engaging in exercise.

The website is a backup but it's certainly not important in the overall scheme of things. If people are that reliant on the OT website for a set of recipes or exercises, then they're unlikely to go the distance anyway

They had a new website, and it even had metric measurements, but it seem to have gotten KO'd and the old one is up in place. Not a fantastic start, but these things happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,116 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Yea bit my point still stands. They launched something which didn't work. Was very amateurish and it should have been tried and tested before launch. I couldn't care less if it is to loose weight, bake a cake, decorate a house, the point is...... It doesn't work!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,390 ✭✭✭Stench Blossoms

Will you give it a chance!

You aren't the only person trying to jump on it. They obviously just underestimated the demand for it.

I'm sure they'll have it shortly and you can do the 'ground breaking' exercise routines that Karl puts up.

Is your man Karl Henry any good?

He seems to be rolled out for anything even vaguely fitness related by RTE/Irish press.

Got his foot in the door early and he's been part of the furniture since.

All he'll ever be doing on RTE is very basic stuff for people who only need to know basics of food and exercise.

Other than that, it's hard to know how good he would be with someone a little more advanced.

No matter how good you think it is prior to release - tech probs happen.

    It's life.

Itd be curious to see a difference in traffic this year vs last - should have been better prepared then, I guess. Hard to tell unless behind the scenes. I have had the most fullproof plans go anything but upon launch before

I would have liked to see more variety in the demographic of the women selected this year - out of however many applicants they managed to pick 4 late 20s/early 30s 'busy mums'.

It is a demographic with a huge proportion of people with weight problems. The number of women who's weight spirals after getting married having kids is significant.

a complete disaster. I can't understand why the website wasn't up and running for the new year to let people log on steadily and build interest. A show likes this needs to grab people from the start and with ongoing problems like this, people will drop out before it even gets up and running properly.

you mean the people who'd have lasted 4wks max?

Weight problems aren't confined to women under 40 with kids, yet 100% of the female participants this year are 'young busy mums'. No women over 40...no childless women whose weight issues can't be attributed in any part to pregnancy. Yep, great show altogether.

It's working now, but temperamental at best! I would say about 50% of the time I get screen saying page not found.

Also when you do get on, i have noticed if you want to plan ahead to get yourself ready for coming days...................eh, well you can't!!!!!!!! You are only shown todays meals, exercises etc. It shouldn't be so hard for them to put up the next few days ahead of time so people can plan ahead.

Before anyone else has a go saying you can get plans elsewhere of the net etc, I'll stop you right there. The thread title is Operation Transformation 2014 and that is all I am discussing. There are failures in their setup and I am pointing them out, as others have pointed out, there was problems last year also. This has been going for years now, so they should be fully aware of what to expect.

Ohhh ffs.... so many keyboard warriors hiding behind keyboards saying all sorts of insulting things and judging others with absolutely little or no knowledge of the individuals involved.

If you're going to broadcast an opinion on something then at least ensure its an informed decision. Couple of points that spring to mind....

    1) Sob stories - For those who are lucky enough to live the perfect life and have never had something negative happened to them, well lucky you. The reality is there are many many many people in this world who haven't and eating often serves as an emotionally nurturing crutch which ultimately leads to physical issues. I hope others don't have your viewpoint against you if something negative happens in your life at some point!!!

    2) Demographic of leaders - From what I can tell they have tried to select a diverse selection of leaders that represent the different demographics of society and that people can relate with and follow them with their meal plans and exercises

    3) Judging a trainer - has anyone made an informed opinion? Does he lift? Does he do marathons. Personally, don't have a clue and won't speculate, its pointless. What he does is a LOT more beneficial.... he's helping 6 leaders turn their lives around.... and through following them he's also helping thousands if not tens of thousands of others. Before you judge people, how many people have you helped out in your life???

    4) Complaints about website, app, etc. - IT mistakes happen... its difficult to estimate demand, can be difficult to handle peak times and IT issues happen. Every IT company on the planet has probably had them. Google it....

Could it be done better? Every project on the planet is done to a schedule and budget with a certain amount of scope. They certainly had a certain budget to make it all happen....

You're getting something for free!!! (Don't bother chiming in with the licence fee chat here). Ultimately its there to educate people about health eating, portion sizes, getting active and engaging the wide community and country in doing so.

    IMO its to be applauded....

Obesity is probably one of the biggest (if not the biggest) medical issue rumbling down the lines and programmes like this help educate and skill people with the life skills that are needed to address these issues and make smarter decisions about their lies and avoid those issues down the line.... and many trolls hiding behind keyboards judging it and putting it down.

Get the f&&& off your keyboard and be part of the solution and help someone else out rather than putting others down!!!

End rant.... no doubt I'll be getting a few troll replies to this one!

    1) Its a journey alright, an emotional rollercoaster
OT2014 drinking game - take a shot any time one of those 2 phrases are used.

    2) the selection is pretty poor though, i cant see the leaders relating to as broad a spectrum as they could/should.

    3) Welcome to the internet, where people discuss things on discussion forums.

    4) The demand spike was easily predicted - the same thing happened last year. Its just pretty poorly handled.

    2) Can you outline your knowledge of the broad Irish demographic and how you feel it could have differed/been improved? Naturally they need work with the leaders that have volunteered and I'm sure demographic spread best fit with the volunteers they have.

    3) BS! This is something that needs to change for society. People shouldn't just sit behind keyboards and be a$$holes just because they are not infront of someone. Look at the issues around bullying arising because of this type issue, I don't need to highlight the suicides that have occurred. If you wouldn't say it to someones face then don't say it.

    4) I'd tend to agree with you... again, may boil down to budget. May boil down to unexpected software/hardware issues. Its up and running now which is whats important.
