Over payed Local Property Tax

Hi, my mother paid 125 euro(half year) last July for the local property tax. It's up for renewal now and she has to pay the 225 for a full year.

She told me she asked the neighbours what they were paying and they said 90 euro for the year. I checked the Residential Property Price Register and a house on the same estate sold for under 100,000 last year.

I phoned the LPT this morning to enquire into getting the valuation dropped and for to pay the 90 instead of 225. They said they couldn't lower it without proof of valuation, to go onto Daft.ie and look up similar properties in my area. For me to print out the valuations and send on the evidence with payment to them. They say if I send on the 225 euro with the evidence of valuation, they'll send back the difference if they agree with the valuation.

My question would be, should I send them this info? Has anyone else done similar?

Didn't want to start a new thread for a similar question:

Basically I'm paying for the 100-150 band but I found out houses beside me recently sold for 60-70. So any suggestions on what to do? The Revenue site is helpful if you want to increase and don't request evidence, but nothing about decreasing.

Also, I'm curretly paying by monthly direct debtit and noticed the payments went up by something like 7cent the past couple of months. Any possible rason for this or just them trying to pull a fast one?

Yes I'd say they're almost certainly trying to screw you out of the extra 84c a year...!!

The OP tells you what to do - phone them to find out what they want/need in order to sort it.

Yeah, I know saying they're taking 7cent extra off me sounds a bit tight, but it's more the fact they're doing it with no reason and with no notification.

As far as I am aware it is a self assessed tax and you do not need to provide evidence.

A daft print out is certainly not a competent valuation in any event.

You just put in the applicable band and pay the appropriate tax in the return.

If you undervalue then revenue will have a charge on your home for the difference when you go to sell it.
