    67.5 million people in France
    47.3 million people in Spain
    4.6 million people in Ireland.

    Simple math. :)

Because of the tiny pool of participating countries?

The first draw was held on Friday 13 February 2004 in Paris. Initially, only the UK, France and Spain participated, with the Austrian, Belgian, Irish, Luxembourgish, Portuguese and Swiss lotteries joining for the 8 October 2004 drawing.

    Country|Population|%
    FR|65950000|30.12
    GB|63181775|28.85
    ES|46704314|21.33
    BE|11099554|5.07
    PT|10487289|4.79
    AT|8414638|3.84
    CH|8014000|3.66
    IE|4593100|2.1
    LU|537853|0.25
    Total|218982523|

So I'd expect more than half of all winners to be from either France or Spain, and four-fifths of winners to come from the UK, France or Spain. Though I'm not sure if the Euromillions is as popular in the UK as elsewhere.

In Spain they have a big annual Christmas lotto draw called El Gordo. Entire villages have been known to go in together, for instance residents of the village of Sodeta won over a 100,000 each a few years back. Maybe they do the same with Euromillions, lotto is huge over there.

Not far off tbh. The lottery is huuuuuge here. Every Spanish person I know does it on a regular basis and spends a lot of money on it. They take the lottery very seriously here.
