UPC Technicolor modem, is the USB port disabled?

Does anyone know if I can plug in a HDD into the USB port on the UPC modem and make it a network drive? Am considering a NAS but a simple USB HDD would be cheaper and also suitable if that port in the modem works.

Yes, usb port is disabled in firmware
