Iv'e been charged with picking up a wii and was instructed not to get the family edition, (they want the game cube compatability) am wondering what's the difference from looking at them as I'll be getting it unboxed in Cex.

The one with GameCube compatability will have two flaps on the top when it's stood upright. (One for GameCube controller ports, the other for memory cards)
If the console is laid flat, they'll be on the left hand side of the console.

The newer versions will not have this, and are designed to be left lying flat.

This pic stolen from the DDR site shows the ports.
