Claiming back tax when emigrating

    Hi,

I've read the sticky above 'Leaving the Country half way through the year- how to claim unused credits' and am (reasonably) comfortable on that.

However, can someone also claim back actual PAYE paid, above the tax credit refund?

    Worked Example:
    Salary of €50k per annum
PAYE bill of €10,312 (After tax credit of €3,300)

Quits job in June and emigrates
€25k actual income in the calendar year
PAYE paid in 6 months: €5,156k

However, PAYE on annual earnings of €25k would only be €1,700. So a refund of €3,456 (the difference) could be expected?

I think I'm right but am finding this hard to grasp.

    Thanks for any assistance

    That's pretty much it.

If you leave in June and apply for Split year relief the unallocated credits for June- December should be applied to refund the PAYE paid for Jan to June.
