In fact I should change it to, Is there any decent ones?

The Independent is toxic with 'celeb' nonsense. So what else, The Irish times? meh...

I like the Irish times and it's crossword. I predict Daily Mail bashing

DM is a tabloid, Indo is a tabloid dressed up as a broadsheet

What is this newspaper that you speak of?

I used to agree with this, but the IT has gone really downhill in the last couple of years. In the last year particularly it has been making huge bids to become the new Guardian.

    Still like the crossword though.

Yep they moved entirely to the "metro" format and abandoned the broadsheet.

The Skibereen Eagle, mainly because thanks to their efforts we've never had any bother with the Tsar of Russia.

Not a huge amount to choose from (at least in Dublin). The Times is grand and has some decent journalism in it. I don't read any of the rest. My local paper, the Fingal Indo, is good for a laugh and for a bit of gossip; twas particularly funny when they reported my brother going to court for pissing in public. I think he might've framed it and hung it on his wall. Hard-hitting news there I think you'll agree.

The (Cork) Examiner is quite good, I'd tend to pick that out of any of the others

    The SINDO.

It's sometimes more than I can bear midweek to wait for Barry Egan's pithy chronicles of being a ginger, hamster-faced shortarse inexplicably granted access to the bon mots of Irish models and socialites..

Irish Times is the only one I'd really buy. Standards have dropped as a result of cost-cutting for sure, but there's still a few decent contributors that are always worth a read.

There is a tremendous amount of cleavage on show in their Life magazine.

The Irish Times is the best paper for news and analysis but they can be frightfully middle-class at times with a bit to much hand-wringing about certain social issues.

The Indo is fairly poor and The Sun/Star/Mirror are literally all the exact same waste-of-good-ink&paper garbage. I seriously don't know why anyone who even consider spending money on them. Celeb gossip, wacky stories pulled of the net and half the paper is sports. Utter rubbish.

It would benefit from a design overhaul imo. That layout and font grate the eyes. Can't be faulted for their strong sports coverage.

i was just gonna say there's plenty of fighting talk on the IT, which doesn't seem to reflect the apathetic mood of the nation.

The Irish times is the only paper that is anything like a newspaper. The Irish independent is literally opinion pieces that which are Often an unhealthy obsession with gay people or property.

    Galway Advertiser is best.

I buy the Sindo most Sunday's. It's a good laugh and manages to wind up lots of people.

It can also be fun to visit here and politics.ie and see the usual shinnerbots and lunatic lefties apoplectic with rage at an article some Sindo hack knocked together during his Wednesday afternoon sobriety.

Love reading about Gerald and Lisa as well.

Yes it is. Here in Sindo Towers we are obsessed with the opinions and viewpoints expressed by spotty students on message boards. AH really captures the zeitgeist when it comes to gauging the hopes, fears and aspirations of Middle Ireland.

It's also a virtual Senate of philosophers, rationalists, economists, geopolitical experts and scientists. Stunning place.

Barry's a magician. He can conjure an article out of thin air.

Like the article he wrote on meeting Nigella and she didn't take drugs.

There was probably even a picture of her cleavage.

That's what you think! Sources close to the couple tell me they were seen staring lovingly into each others eyes in Chapter One on Sunday evening.

An interested onlooker also noted a bulge in Gerard's pants.

Since the job pages disappeared, the property adverts died and reviews of crappy little diesel cars took over I stopped buying newspapers.

When I do want to read yesterdays sports results, listen to opinion of some fat old tart and look at depressing headlines I'll get a free copy in McDonalds.

I seem to recall Barry did the stand up gigs back in the day, now that's when he was genuinely funny & a decent skin. Unless I imagined it all. Once you fall under the Sindo's shadow you undergo a metamorphosis...
