    MOVEMENT OF GREYHOUNDS TO THE UK
    07/01/2014
    We have a large number of queries in the past week concerning new regulations involving the movement of greyhounds from Ireland to the UK. The following statement was issued by the IGB’s Barry Coleman yesterday:

    Transportation of Greyhounds from Ireland to the UK
    EU Laws are now being enforced by UK Officials – Trading Standards - for all dogs (including greyhounds) entering the UK
    Greyhounds being transported to UK by owners for Trialing/Racing purposes are now required to:
    * Be Micro-chipped
    * Have a Pet Passport
    * Have a valid rabies vaccination and must have been administered at least 21 days prior to travel
    There are additional requirements for those greyhounds on Commercial Exports (i.e. sale or change of ownership) which are:
    * Transporter has to have Type 2 Transport Authorisation from Dept. of Agriculture, Food and the Marine
    * Veterinary Surgeons must complete and certify, in Pet Passport, clinical examination of greyhounds within 24 hours of travel to ensure that greyhounds are healthy and fit for journey
    * Health Certificate must be issued by the Dept. of Agriculture, Food and the Marine within 24 hours of scheduled departure time – available from local Regional Veterinary Office
