Moving off observation

    Hi,
I just passed my test with 3points. Out of this 2points could have been avoided with correct guidance.
I was taught to move-off with the steps: gear, look over right shoulder, rear mirror, wing mirror, indicator and move off.
I understand this sequence requires perfect timing - no time lapse. I was bit late in indicator so the tester gave me point. The tester was saying, to be safe, look on right shoulder as a last step. In fact my friend and many videos on youtube advises this but I was blindly following my instructor.

In close failure cases, 1 or 2 points on this simple issue can easily be avoided and test passed.

    Good luck

    3 points- 3 grade 2's is it?

Bolded bit- understandable. Your checks should be done just before you move off, that's the whole point in doing them. No point checking and pausing a bit, indicating (I know it wasn't intentional on your part but it does happen regular enough especially when people are nervous) and then moving off, as something could easily come from behind in the time between you checking and getting ready to move off.

The checks, indicate, move off should be as swift a movement as possible. I know you passed but for anyone who has trouble, the best way is just keep practice it and it'll become second nature. Even at home it can be done so no excuse not to :)

Yeah I always give quick glance over the right shoulder myself after indicating and as I'm taking off, just in case a cyclist, pedestrian or something would come from nowhere into blind spot.

    I was thought the following

Gear, left blindspot, left mirror, rear mirror, right mirror, indicator, right blindspot, handbrake....go.

I was looking at video the other day that did, gear, rear mirror, right mirror, indicator then right blindspot.

That's what I learned at the end. Luckily it didn't cost my test.
So I was only posting as a lesson learned

I believe the proper technique is to engage launch control, put one foot on the gas and the other on the brake (odd, I know!), get it up to 5,000 RPM and then release the brake.

Of course, that's if you want to fail the test, but spectacularly so :-)

I was thought to use the GOSH routine:

G - Put car into Gear
O - Observation in 5 points: Left blindspot, left wing mirror, rear view, right wing mirror, right blindspot
    S - Signal
    H - Hand brake

    Go!

It's become a habit for me & never forget to do it now. I failed my test today in Raheny but no marks (grade 1 or 2) for moving off in any of the categories. At least I appear to be doing something right..... :-/

I think any sequence is fine as long as there is no delay. If there is a delay end observations with right blind spot.

    Good luck for next attempt.
