just wondering when I should start giving suckler cows minerals on the silage ,there sucklers and start t calve in early/mid march, last year I had trouble with calves not getting up to suck after born , I presume it was lack of minerals. its a limousoin bull. all help greatly appreciated:rolleyes:

no harm to start now as it will help the calf's development

in the past I have found LIFELINE very good and the cows mop it up

sprinkle on top on the silage once or twice a day

you could also get one of their buckets and leave in the calving pen

Would there be any disadvantage other than the cost to giving them the minerals all the time when they are in the shed
I have been giving them the Seaweed minerals since they went in last November.

Get a few of does mayo healthcare mineral licks and with the seaweed aswell you will have everything covered. The seaweed alone is far superior to a lot of the muck minerals available

We use Seaquim seaweed here, from 6 weeks before due date.
I know some who use pre-calver mineral (Power form) & others Rosette

Think I paid €30, must get more soon.
I started giving a little to heifers prior to bulling, & intend to give to the ewes prior to lambing
