What is the name size on the tyre that's the only was we could tell. 75 euro sounds very cheap for 17 inch so chances are it's going to be a crap Chinese brand. But you get what you pay for.

If you only paid €20 for it, you were still robbed! (IMO of course!)

Nordexx tyres? Never heard of them before.

    Google throws back http://www.nordexx.com/en/product-overview/brands/stratus/
    No particular mentions on boards

Is this opinion based on personal experience?

Well was 75 euros too much to pay for this questionable tyre??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

No. Its exactly the right price for what it is.

Had a quick look on google, seems to be 215/40/17.

Another quick google tells me €75 won't get you a very good tyre in that size. As a point of reference a Goodyear in that size on eiretyres is about €135

You weren't robbed, but I personally would have went with a better brand, or a part worn if it is just a stop gap until the other good tyre on the same axle wears more and its time to get a pair.

Nope, but it is based on the reviews I read of them.

Poor or nil scores for traction and braking in wet AND dry conditions says it all.

For future tyre purchases I'd say do the following.

-buy tyres in pairs never in ones I.e. Replace the tyres on each axle at the same time. This means you will have tyres with the same performance on each axle. Whereas now you probably have 3-4 completely different brand tyres with different thread levels which is quite frankly a disaster.

-replace tyre when the thread gets near the minimum markers which are in the grove of the tyre (the raised piece of rubber in the groove) the minimum legal thread depth is 1.6mm but they should be replaced before they reach that limit.

-never buy cheap Chinese tyres they are the only thing that connect the car to the road. They will ultimately decide whether or not the car will loose control due to lack of traction. So since you don't know much about tyres (your words) best to stick to main brands such as; Bridgestone, uniroyal, Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, continental, hankook and kumho. There is others but theses are the main one I can think of hope this helps :)

I think the place I went to , saw me coming, as the young lad says to me, "I think the other one needs to be changed aswell, it looks a bit bald", even though I know fo ra fact he didn't even look at it as I was standing in the forecourt of the garage the whole time, and the thread depth was checked recently and they were grand...but I didn't fall for that one though...

I'd recommend online and independant fitting.

If they are original Ford 17" alloy wheels then they are probably 205/50/R17, same size fitted to the Volvo S40/V50, they are an oddball size so €75 will not get that good a tyre in that size.

I'd suggest something like Hankook or Kumho, both are decent mid range brands but you will be paying a bit more than €75 each for them. If money is tight then I suggest looking at some part worn premium branded tyres, much better than cheap plastic ditch finder tyres.

Just checked out their website, and those that would fit my car are rated B for wet performance.

Surely these tyres would be independently tested? They can't make up performance figures.

And if they have been tested, how can they get a B for wet performance and users saying they don't grip in the wet?

    Holy thread revival!

How many tyres do you need?
Might be worth changing size slightly.

Please start a fresh thread and volunteer your particular circumstances, tyre size, budget, do you need a fitter etc.
