Insuring my own car on provisional license?

    Hi there,

Just wondering what to do.. I'm a 28 year old female, I am only learning how to drive now.. oops! I now have a 01 micra and am waiting for my provisional license to arrive in the post. I would love to learn in the micra as the only other option would be to learn in my Father's 7 seater jeep or my Mothers automatic car. Does anyone know if it is possible to insure your own car on a provisional license? Would my age make a difference to the price? I have checked the online comparison sites and they don't seem to give the option of insuring on a provisional so maybe it isn't possible! I just wanted to get an idea from people on here before I start ringing insurance companies!

It is impossible to get an online quote with a Learner permit. Ring around a few companies, or go to a broker.

Not impossible at all, but as with any insurance it's worth trying every channel: online, phone, brokers etc.

Insurance I wouldn't really know but if I can just say, if you have the option to learn for the first few months in the 7 seater jeep I would really recommend it, it would get you used to manoeuvring, parking and so on in something bigger and you'd have no problem jumping in your own micra and being a lot more confident than you would. Just my tuppence worth, best of luck and safe driving

I got insurance in a learners permit in July for a 2004 Micra from chill insurance for €870. I was 29 at the time.
