I have an arcade game (full size cabinet, ex arcade) and it stopped working a few years ago. I would like to get someone to have a look at it and see if it is repairable. Are there any companies/individuals who can help?
    Based in Naas.
    thanks. :)

whats the problem with it? not powering on? screen not working but getting sound? game not working but screen coming on?

Hi Keith, thanks for the reply. Yeah, the cabinet light comes on up top, and the screen lights up- green initially before gradually fading to white/gray. No sounds, no reaction to any inputs.

Does the monitor still stay on the whole time it's white/grey? Sounds like the game board in it has issues, which would be an easy fix.

What game/setup is in the cab?

Yeah, it stays that colour for as long as I leave it turned on. It would be great if it was an easy fix as it's of great sentimental value to me.
It had 37 different games on it- Pacman, a really early F1 game etc etc.

Have you ever had a peak inside? If you could get some photos that would be great.

If it's a real cabinet from an arcade, it will be wired for 'jamma'.

Basically there'll be a harness with a big PCB on the end of it - that's the game.
    Like in this pic.

If the game is all that's broken, then all you have to do is slot the old game out and a new one in.

Yeah, it looks pretty similar to that- here is a quick iPhone picture.

Excellent, that's exactly what I was hoping to see.

Looks like an old multi game PCB. (the dust will attest to it's age!)

Basically the first thing to do is to disconnect that game PCB from the blue Jamma harness and connect up another one. Fingers crossed the other game will boot up fine.

Ebay. If the monitor is vertical then one of these boards would do the job perfectly. I have one in a cab and it's great.

Them old F1 games won't help you get around Mondello any faster :)

If the local Naas lads don't get sorted let me know and I'll take a look, although you should be in good hands.

Hopefully its just the game board, Urbanledge will know if he swaps one in and if so easy to just replace the board.

So Urbanledge popped round last night and it turns out the machine is fine- it is just the game that is goosed. I am over the moon. He is an absolute gent and even showed me a few bits and pieces about the cabinet, how to open the front, where the game should be properly mounted etc- Top Man- thanks a mil!!!

Now I have to go buy a game- I feel like a kid heading to the shop, pocket money in hand.
Any suggestions as to what selection I should go for, or is the one on the above link the best?

    I'm flattered......ha ha ha

That cab you have is a real beauty!
Probably one of the most original cabs Ive seen.

    As for the game board.
As I said the 60-1 vert is the one I recommend for the old school games.
I have the email for a fella in England (frothmister on J+) that imports them so they can be got for 45e delivered from him.

If I were you I'd sign up to jamma+ and ask about getting a bezel(the glass) for that cab and she'd be complete!

Excellent! Delighted for ya :) As soon as you hear that a monitor is still powering up just with garbled sprites/colours etc it's more than likely the game board.

The opposite (and scary!) version is when you power up and you get game sound but no picture - that's when the monitor is goosed.

I see all the roms on the game board are socketed. Did you try popping them off and reseating them?

It's pretty easy to do. The chips just have legs stuck into sockets.

Use a knife to prise the chips out of their sockets and then stick them back in. Might get the game going again, you get rust and gunk building up on the connections over the years. Also give the board a dusting off while you're at it.

Worth a try anyway seeing as it's not working, nothing to lose ;)

The board linked above is much better and will give you a far wider selection of classic games. So probably best to pick up anyway. It's great value (Especially if Urbanledge can get them that cheap)

Your also missing a bar that goes along the top where the speakers are, it holds the glass in place on the bottom. you slot the glass into that then push it up between the slot on the top under the marguee, then the bar comes down onto the top of the speaker grill are and holds the glass in place. you will have to McGuyver yourself a new one of them somehow in order to hold the glass.
